Re: Hysterectomy anyone?? Leave or take ovaries

I'm probably a bit younger than you, but I also have a hysterectomy looming in my near future. We're planning to leave at least one ovary (out of four!!) to avoid throwing me into early menopause. However, if I was already at an age where menopause was imminent, I don't think I would care if they to...

A friend of mine recently learned to crochet and just finished a Deadpool granny square afghan.

I would love to see pics of this!

So as if Americans don't currently have enough cause to want to migrate up north, Cadbury has seen fit to grace you guys with Oreo Creme Eggs. I need these in my life. Badly. Would anyone be willing to mail me some?? I'll obviously cover purchase and shipping cost or can trade American candy in exch...

Re: Any CrossFitters?

I have no need to prove anything with big weights (even to myself) so I'm not expecting to push myself towards injury in that respect. Falling over a box, on the other hand, is a distinct possibility!! My goal is mostly to get a good, consistent workout and maybe plan for a few obstacle races ...

Re: Any CrossFitters?

For on ramp it was just me and another girl who's at a similar fitness level as, so that was nice. I have no illusions about how out of shape I right now, so ego isn't a problem! Plus, free weights after a whole new world... We went over class structure, movements and form. Pretty low key and very n...

Re: Any CrossFitters?

Glad to hear some first hand positive reviews. I had no idea how polarizing it was until I decided to do it - seems like for everyone who loves it there's someone who vehemently hates it. I'm looking for something to whip my butt back into shape and frankly, the low weight/high rep machine routine t...

Any CrossFitters?

Just curious if anyone here's done it. I start on ramp Thursday and am looking forward to it. I miss martial arts like crazy but can't make the schedule work anymore and am hoping this will be a suitably punishing alternative. (If I don't feel like I'm gonna die at the end I feel like I wasted my ti...

What are you reading?

So what good books have you read lately? I've been reading massive amounts of YA and textbooks, but have managed to squeeze in a few pleasure books (mostly on audio) here and there. Some good recent reads have been I Let You Go (great twist), Wake of Vultures (great voice), The Long Way to a Small A...

Re: Television shows- I found some gems. Anyone else have any good ones?

Amity, out of curiosity have you read the Expanse books? I'm really wanting to love the show as much as I do the novels but I just don't feel like it's quite capturing the feel of the books. That said, everyone I know who lives sci-fi TV shows the show (but haven't read the books) so maybe it's just...

Re: Television shows- I found some gems. Anyone else have any good ones?

Another huge fan of The Killing. After I tore through all four seasons I found Broadchurch and Top of the Lake to be solid replacements. (For those unfamiliar, they're all great crime shows that go way beyond "killer of the week") When I had surgery I binge watched Longmire. At first I jus...

Re: Musings of the Directionless

Fwiw, when my brother lived in Charleston he had no problem finding pet friendly rentals (apartments and houses both) and that was with a super destructive 120lb frankenlab and a mean Chihuahua who refused to potty outside. So don't assume there's no hope of bringing the animals!

Scruffy, definitely didn't think you were down playing cake - of course cake is awesome!! :) I like the wording of "difficult family time" - vague enough without being an outright lie. I'm really hoping the fact that I have the degree, licensure, teaching experience, and great references m...

Explaining Gaps in Employment

Once upon a time ago I taught high school. I was kind of great at it. I also wanted to kill myself every day. Those facts are not actually related. I was young, I was in an abusive relationship and I really, REALLY hated my life. Thanks to Captain Assface I plumbed depths of depression I had no idea...

I have the paperwhite and love it. I wouldn't want one that's a tablet because I don't like reading on those kind of screens, but the paperwhite is awesome. Super easy to borrow library books on too.

Re: Speaking of audiobooks

The Dresden Files are great as audios! Those, along with the Cormoran Strike novels, are both series I would far rather listen to than read. And if I end up rereading them in book form, its always with the narrators' pacing and inflection.

A good reader makes all the difference.

Re: Simple pleasures. The grilled cheese sandwich...

Bacon with fig or apricot preserves makes a nice add in. Usually do this with gruyere and/ or smoked cheddar on brioche. Yumm! Goat cheese, bacon, mushroom and cranberry also happens on a fairly regular basis, with balsamic reduction for dipping. It might sound odd, but it's divine! (even without th...

Re: To Ikea, or not to Ikea...Bookcase wall

I'll gladly take a cheap five year solution right now! Having books in boxes is driving me nuts. We're felting the bottoms and putting them on hardwoods, but if they end to failing it's not the end of the world. At this point, it's an issue I can happily put off to another day!

Re: To Ikea, or not to Ikea...Bookcase wall

How timely! I have a pile of Billy's awaiting assembly in our "library" (yay for random rooms!) and will top them with crown molding so they tie in with the rest of the room. Just can't justify the cost or time of building shelves with all the other new house projects we have going. If you...
