I find the descriptions given by blob and exvet to be exactly what connection means in dressage and further helps my learning to get it right. (Thank you!) How can you have connection without contact? By trying to compare different riding disciplines may not make sense for a connection discussion.

I will add that some of these horses are SO LIGHT and SENSITIVE to the hand that I would never be able to ride them. As usual I prefer and fall somewhere in the middle.

Dealing with heat and extreme humidity here too makes for more walks and less ring work. Demi - I will not complain about the humidity bringing out the biting deer flies in our woods versus your rattlers.

Based on the pony's background as you described the changes SF suggested sound reasonable and then monitor him. Honestly I would cut back on both the grain amount and remove the alfalfa. It's amazing how well some ponies and horses can still maintain good weight when we think it is too little food. Less is best. IMO 3/4 scoop is too much for a pony. Been there - done that.

Well being forced to stay indoors motivated me to clean house and clear closets. Weather report says more rain this afternoon but I think that may be the end of it. I just hope the temperatures get warm gradually as I'm not good with sudden heat waves.
