Re: What makes you happy?

For some, horses are in our blood. I really thought I would be done with horses when Bob transitioned. But nope, as time went on I realized I needed horses. Horses (or a specific chestnut mare...) complete me.

Re: What makes you happy?

I don't believe in the concept of something making me happy. I believe in being content. Of course, Miss A. is the primo thing that makes me content (well, she does make me happy). Just seeing her face washes away all bad things. My Ursala Kitteh sitting on my lap purring makes me smile. Chantal, I ...

Re: Cold is coming! Recommendations for boots, coats?

I had a Land’s End coat for years. It covered my bum and had a 2 way zipper. Lots of pockets and wrist cuffs. When it gave up the ghost, I bought a lightweight but warm Carhart at Farm and Fleet for $99. I layer with a white t-shirt and a cashmere sweater I bought from a thrift store. Keeps me warm ...

The weather has finally turned and summer is gone. Yesterday Ariel trotted away from me in the pasture and girlfriend did a lovely lengthening. Under saddle we worked on lengthening on the long side and shortening on the short side. She is really starting to use her hind end for longer periods.

last night I took Miss A. to the hose in the aisle. She stood there quietly while I washed her tail. It helped that a fellow boarder stood at her head, but he didn't have to hold her. I think she thought he had treats. At least her tail is clean now!

Glad to hear you are back in the saddle, Susan. Doesn’t matter what you did, or how Kyra did, riding is so therapeutic for the mind and soul. Ariel is acknowledging that she has a hind end. I had several moments during our lesson today of feeling her back round under me. She yielded to me and we did...

Riding with 2 dressage whips

Miss A. was lacking motivation and bend yesterday due to my hand position. My instructor had me carry 2 whips, mainly to keep my hands in the correct position, maintaining the whips on my thighs. Occasionally I would have to tickle her to remind her to step under with her inside leg. Carrying the wh...

Saturday we were riding and teeny Roger the pony came into the arena. Ariel stood stock still like a statue, st...

Ariel doesn’t like the confinement of the wash stall. There is a hose and spigot in the main aisle, but no place to hook her up. She also doesn’t like water on her back. I think we will a bit of training with the spigot in the aisle. Yesterday I noticed her coat was gleaming in the sun, so good groo...

How often do you bathe your horse?

I’ve had Miss A. 2 years and have never given her a full bath with soap. I washed her tail a year ago, and have hosed off her legs and undercarriage. If it’s hot she gets an alcohol sponge bath. She is not good in the wash stall and frankly, I don’t feel like doing the training. There are boarders w...

Lovely picture. I would never know you needed to stretch your right side. It took Miss A. almost a year to unlearn her pushy behavior. Took a lot of patience on my part, but so worth it. Gotta love the redheads. I'm glad the acupuncture is helping.

I will never own another horse, but if I were shopping, I would not rule out a mare. Ariel is far more affectionate and bonded t...
