Well, unless he's a traveling rat he was dumped. I have a grand total of 5 neighbors scattered around and none of them has/had a pet rat. Do rats travel?

Done, thanks! There is one available at my local hardware store. I'll pick it up in the morning and hopefully he barn cat or the resident bear (bears don't eat rats though, do they?) won't get a hold of the little guy before I trap him.

Re: We've been adopted by an escaped domestic rat, sigh.....
I will not have a pet rat. That tail really freaks me out. Plus, absolutely, if one of the other critters gets a hold of it, it's going to die very unpleasantly. So now....any words of wisdom as to how to trap a rat without killing it? I have a raccoon trap but he'll get out of that one in a heartbe...

We've been adopted by an escaped domestic rat, sigh.....
A couple of nights ago I was hanging in the backyard while the dogs were doing their last business for the night and saw a rat walk by and hide in the wood pile. Now, we do live in the country and on occasion I have seen a rodent or two but this guy acted like he owns the place, wasn't fazed...

Good tenants are hard to find but it's not impossible. Presently we have one against whom we'll probably start the eviction process this month, but, so far and crossing fingers and toes, all the others are very much ok. In one unit we have a couple who have been there 25 years (were in place when we...

FYI the officer has been fired. Apparently he was in the habit of slamming students into the ground with no apparent provocation so this was not the first time something like this happened, only the first time it was caught on video. Good riddance. That was definitely out of line. Was the girl wrong...

Re: The good guy with a gun
If you own guns, fine. Leave them at home. What is the purpose of carrying a gun around if you don't plan to shoot it at some point or another? Someone comes to your house with the intention of doing you harm, use the gun in self defense. You run around with a gun, you're looking to use it. And unle...

I had really good luck with adding rice bran pellets to the beet pulp/oil mix. Cool Calories 100 is supposed to be awesome but my gelding didn't care for it one bit and wouldn't eat it so I guess it depends o how much of a picky eater your horse is. Another great supplement (a bit pricey but in my o...

Before moving to Oregon I used to ride at a state park very close to my house that was full of cyclists and I have to say, the vast majority of them share the trails very well. Here is the darn ATVs. Also in Oregon but on the coast. I have four horses on 13 acres split in two pastures. Coastal grass is not exactly the most nutritious. Thanks!

Ms. Zelda, the hyper active GSD would like a job. One that doesn't entail herding horses (ok, more like trying to herd them - they tend to ignore her efforts) would be ideal. She's super athletic and I'm thinking she would like agility. Unfortunately, there are no classes nearby as the closest agili...

Go with a friend who has a steady as a rock horse.
Go on a calm day, when the waves are small and break gently.
On the same note, avoid a windy day.
Stay away from the surf as much as you can the first few times.
Have fun.
