Re: What do you have around your house from the old BB?

I have my favorite coffee mug from a kringle gift that I am currently drinking out of, and use every morning! And the cookbook is on CD somewhere (I don't actually cook). And so much good advice and jingles and memories. I can't look at my lilac every spring without thinking of Ayla.

Re: For those of you who spin yarn...

 I can't even imagine having that many fleeces to spin. It takes me 2 years to spin an entire fleece. Of course, I have distractions- like other fleeces. So I don't stick with one until I finish. I get bored too easily.

Yay! I just did the January schedule for everyone yesterday (too many people wanted changes). So it isn't final yet until everyone complains about it. Hopefully I will know by tomorrow when the main complainer gets to tear it apart.

Re: For those of you who spin yarn...

Those sheep are amazing- I love that spotted ram. His horns are impressive! I am a fan of heritage breed sheep, and I suppose yours are a "heritage" as it gets :) And Merino soft fleece is a lovely bonus. The Churro sheep (Navajo heritage breed) fleeces tend to be a bit harsher in the hand...

Wow- I didn't know there were so many other spinners here :) I have spun angora, but only 100%- I am still figuring out how to blend either colors or fibers, and I don't have a blending board. I do like 100% angora, though. My Cinnabun's fluff is piling up, though, while I work on all the other flee...

It was a very fun trip! And even better I didn't buy any fleeces. (I have 4 here to process. Well, 5 actually. But 4 really nice ones). I did get silk to ply with some gray Merino I have waiting to be spun. I usually go to these sorts of things by myself- it was nice to have company!

Re: High-neck turnout blankets/sheets?

I love the high necks- I have used the Schneider's house brand ones. They do let in less snow and rain and don't ride back and bind on the withers, even on shark-fin horses. As an aside- anyone have a good place to find pony sized high necks? I have to get a blanket for new pony this winter.

Woohoo! It worked :) I used the King Arthur recipe, and store bought buttermilk. But the bread is quite good, especially smothered in butter h...

The King Arthur recipe says baking soda, and no baking powder. I bought cultured buttermilk this morning since I had to go shopping anyway. I'm going to try this. It may be a dismal failure- I will report back!

I don't know about compressed bales, but I feed dry round bales. It is a wonderful way to keep the horses eating constantly in the winter cold. I have a "hay hut" that it goes in that I have used for years- it keeps the rain and snow off the bale so they can find it when the snow gets deep...

Re: Should I be concerned about turnout with a 5-month-old colt?

Good solution. My thoughts were why isn't she cutting the colt this fall? Waiting till spring, she is going to have 2 bred mares, one being his mother. Or move the colt to the gelding only turn out. He should be weaned anyway. Then your mare could be properly introduced to the mare herd without the ...
