Re: Ground work for bend
From what I've learned the ribcage doesn't bend but rotates, like a hanging basket between the thoracic sling and the pelvic girdle. Is she rotating her ribcage upwards into the bend? In hand, you can touch with the whip at the top of the ribcage asking it swing more down (I may not be explaining th...

Gorgeous photo and I personally aim for an outline like that with my horses!
But depending what level you would ride at, I wonder if some judges would think the frame was too 'open'.

Re: Scoring Discussion Thread
I think the judging has to be more correct. When you actually read the FEI rules, a horse should not be behind the vertical. It talks about a horse coming near to the vertical in piaffe, but in other paces the rules talk about being in front. How many horses dive down in front and don't stand still ...

I'm not quite sure what a recognised show is, I think it's equivalent to our 'official' competitions? So you have to do all the proper things, wear the right stuff etc, scores can be found online with our state dressage body, judges are qualified appropriately etc. I went to one on the weekend, so d...

Re: Riding Friesians, any tips?
I've got 2 friesian crosses and I've ridden/known about 6 or so now. They do like to raise their heads and necks and contract/curl the neck short and then push through the shoulders/sternum. You do need to ask them to reach to the contact, but I don't think riding them deep and round helps them lift...

The breeder where Ding came from (he's friesian x TB) is breeding some knabstupper x friesians. Some have some really cute markings. I've been a bit tempted to get another baby horse however I'm not sure I'd want another friesian x, however Ding is one of the sweetest, funnest horses to have around ...

Pivo works pretty well for me. I put it on the side of the arena at about 1.2 metres high. Had a practice today taking in everyone's advice. I've sat in on a few judges seminars and they are taught not to penalise a good moving horse as much as you would penalise a poorer moving horse. I've noticed her doing this before too! And I've tried it myself (since I can't do sitting trot on my big horse!) and it's hard to make it just a little rising trot like she does. I do think that it is probably fairer to the horse if riders did rising trot to the extensions. You see a lot of leaning...

I don't understand why you get that worn out riding, when you do clearly quite a bit of exercise? Does the exercise exhaust you too? I did notice a lot of that Blob, and maybe he is trying to be encouraging. But it's all just hold the mouth and push. The first one I watched did passage and piaffe but was telling her that piaffe is basically just passage on the spot. It's quite biomechanically different, so I was disappointed.

I find that a big release like that can indicate there was a fair bit of tension before hand, so whatever you were doing might have been quite challenging. Nice that she can release like that. Norsey does it sometimes after some 'harder work' when we walk break.
