Re: Soaking soy hulls for Cushings pony

Thanks, Chisamba. I’ve notice the soy absorbs very quickly, but the alfalfa cubes seem to take longer. I appreciate your comment. It’s the micro stuff I’m concerned about too.

Soaking soy hulls for Cushings pony

My pony (20) is recently diagnosed with Cushings. I’m substituting pelleted soy hulls and a handful of alfalfa cubes, both soaked, for some of her hay ration. Any ideas on how long this feed can safely stand, soaked, before feeding? If I start the soaking at night, is it okay to feed within 24 hours...

Re: Breast Cancer Spin-Off, Who's had it?

Me. I'm only 2 years in though. Had a simple one-sided mastectomy. Couldn't tolerate the estrogen-blocking drugs, so am now flying (lobsidedly) without a seat belt. I was terrified at the beginning, now it's less on my mind, but I know the risk of recurrence will be with me forever, there is no 5-ye...

Re: Clicker Training with Horses...anyone doing/done it?

I started with Clicker training then went on to something similar (Kayce Cover's SATS program). This was all a game-changer for me and my horses. Horses become more confident. I get the impression they start thinking everything is a set-up, by me, where they will have the opportunity to earn rewards...

Re: SUV Head restraints

I was back at the Hyundai dealer today to check the headrest height when reversed. My salesman wasn't there, so another helped me. She didn't like my position in the seat of the Tucson and suggested I try the Santa Fe because the head restraint adjusts horizontally as well as vertically. Interesting...

Re: SUV Head restraints

I had a chat with my insurance agent about the implications of turning the headrest around to a position I could tolerate. She said it would not void my insurance, but if I was in an accident and suffered whiplash, my claim would probably be denied even if the modified headrest position ended up bei...

Re: SUV Head restraints

That's what I was afraid of, Rhianon. I had a quick sit in one and wasn't convinced it made enough difference. I am 5'8" and very very long in the back.

Boots, I wasn't able to sit up straight with only low back and head touching the seat. I think pelvis angle also comes into the equation.

Re: SUV Head restraints

When I reversed the headrest in the Tucson it was about 1/2" away from the back of my head, but I'm not sure it was high enough (I'd need to get a photo... the salesman said it was high enough, but I need a more objective opinion). The intention of the new design of head restraints is to have a...

Re: SUV Head restraints

Yes, orono, the new headrests put my head too far forward, taking my upper back with it, generating all sorts of upper back, shoulder, chest and neck pain, no matter how I adjust the angle of the seat or seat back. It's enough to put a person off driving. It reminds me of saddle-fitting-hell.

SUV Head restraints

We're looking around at small SUVs . My neck can't handle the position it's put into by the modern forward head restraint. The Mazda CX5 had my neck in spasm in 5 minutes. The Hyundai Tucson was better but not good enough; the salesman suggested I take out the restraint, turn it around, and put it b...

OMG. The Speed Queen looks exactly like my new Huebsch! So I googled it, and it is the same, but the name is different in Canada. So bits and I have been raving about the same thing. Exactly.

Re: the washing machine saga.

Just stopped at the mail box to find my latest issue of Consumer Reports (May 2016), and it has a big section on washing machines. Your library might have a copy. I was interested to see that Huebsch wasn't mentioned anywhere. Lucky thing our old washer broke before we saw this issue, or we would ha...

Re: the washing machine saga.

Our 40-year old washer recently died. We'd kept it going with occasional repairs because the repair guy said the new ones had lots of problems. But finally, something happened that he couldn't fix. He told us to avoid most of the new ones. He has many customers who bought new and were disappointed. ...

Sorry you are dealing with this transition, though you're sounding very sensible about it. I don't have much (if anything) to contribute, but am following the thread with interest, being in a similar position. Thank you for starting this thread, PaulaO. I want to get rid of all the tack and horse gear I won't be needing, but first I have to decide what I might just possibly need and what I will never ever use again, and since I have been wrong before, this will take probably a year to figure out. Same iss...

Thanks, Paula.
A shopping mall would be a cozy thing today. We started out with snow, and now we have wind and rain. There was excitement too, the ponies were spooked by the shrieks of several eagles in the field next door, fighting over an ex-something.

Snork, I expected the same as you. Maybe I could have set it up better, and stopped at the "moan of pleasure". Or maybe trucks are just innately sexier than sox. :) I will work harder on my next thread.

Can we talk about sox?

I have just discovered snowboarder socks. I challenge anyone to slide into a pair without uttering a moan of pleasure. They are padded on the bottom and snug on the instep. The toes are tapered just like my feet. There is an L on one and an R on the other, so I know which one goes where. They come u...
