Re: Horse locks/tightens jaw.

Lots of good insights & observations. One of my horses used to lock his jaw and demand to go faster. What worked for him was combing the inside rein. He softened very quickly, lengthened his stride, and became straighter. I think it was effective for him because he had nothing to brace against. ...

Re: a few questions before I royally mess up the horse I'm leasing

Lots of good observations & advice. If it were me & the horse were mine, I would have an excellent equine dentist out to check his teeth. Ramps, sharp teeth, and/or long molars can cause a horse to have a hard mouth on one side and/or be resistant to flexing or turning. If his teeth check ou...

Re: No discussion on Obama's gun reforms?

I respect President Obama for his courage in taking this initial step to try to curb gun violence. I also respect the emotions he showed & expressed about these senseless killings. President Obama consistently has shown he has a heart and genuinely cares about people.

Re: Non-dressage trainers. Thoughts?

For some reason, I've been watching a lot of old Western movies lately. I never see these horses being ridden like a Western Pleasure Competition Horse. Mostly, they are up & open & going somewhere. Very enjoyable.

Just my opinion: Easy access to Guns of Mass Murder will lead to more mass murders.

Re: Frank Baines Balance International Saddles

I have a Zenith 8x (width). My horses love it! I have ridden it on Thoroughbreds, Fresians, Draft Crosses, QHs, and wide ponies. They all go well in it. The Balance Saddle padding system allows me to ride the more narrow horses as well as the wider horses.

Another variation of palomino is Champagne Gold. The horse has pink skin, mottled skin around the nose, amber eyes, and a creamy golden coat. Often the hair gives an almost iridescent sheen. Can be very pretty.

Re: back problem??(long)

We horselovers need to get our Private Investigator Licenses. Sometimes it takes ruling out all kinds of possible issues before figuring out where the horse's pain comes from. It could be ulcers or kissing spine or a soft muscle injury or something else. I had a horse who was on pasture 12-24 hours ...

Re: I'm afraid for the Republican Party

I do wish we would have a smaller government by cutting ridiculous waste, rather than programs. Virtually every politician for the last 30 years has said this was tops on their agenda. Either (1) why is it so hard to do? or (2) most of it's been done. Many years ago, a friend took over managing the...

Re: I'm afraid for the Republican Party

I'm afraid for the United States, if one of the far right-wing Republicans gets elected. By the way, Rand Paul has told me that he will NEVER compromise. His way or the highway. He is in favor of shutting down the Federal Government is he doesn't get his way. He doesn't care about the billions it co...

Re: Amusements appropriate for dementia?

Lots of great ideas! One thing that brought my mother to life was singing. Church groups or local bands volunteer to sing at local senior centers, assisted living homes, & nursing homes. Many of these organizations welcome seniors to these events. My mother loved going. She remembered the songs....

Re: High-neck turnout blankets/sheets?

I've always preferred them as I think they put less pressure on the withers and neck. Yes, the Wug does bunch down, but it still puts less pressure on the neck. I bought one of these for last year, and really like it. http://www.adamshorsesupplies.com/centaur-1200-snuggly-turnout-sheet-203729#92=10...

Re: Winter Feeding of the Older Gelding

Lots of good suggestions. Old horses can be so finicky. I'm feeding my old guy lots of alfalfa cubes, soaked in hot/warm water. He loves them & has gained weight on them. I've recently added Rice Oil & that may help as well. Good luck. I check how my oldster looks every day to tell if I need...

Re: Separation anxiety in dog

Knowing what I know now, if I had a dog with separation anxiety, I'd put him/her on a high quality magnesium supplement. Magnesium improves brain function and helps with anxiety, if the creature is magnesium deficient. Best wishes.

Re: Separation anxiety in dog

I am hesitant on the gental leader as they are designed for walking and not leaving the dog alone. I do not see how the dog could chew out of the Gentle Leader Collar, unless it was not fitted properly. The Gentle Leader Collars work great on dogs who pull, as our current strong-willed puppy will d...

Re: Separation anxiety in dog

We had absolutely no problems leaving the Gentle Leader Collar on our dog with severe separation anxiety. Our dog with severe separation anxiety makes your dog look like he loves being left alone. Our dog ate her way out of a metal wire cage; broke windows to get out of our brand new cabin; chewed a...

Did you try the Gentle Leader Collar? It worked a miracle on our dog with severe separation anxiety. I've recommended it to at least 12 people whose dogs are destructive when they leave them alone. All were most grateful for the advice. Simple solution to a heart-breaking problem for these dogs. Of ...

We had a dog who developed severe separation anxiety. It was truly awful for her, our home, our barn, and us. She would shake uncontrollably with the first signs of our leaving. She was horribly afraid & panicky. She was very destructive when we left her alone. She tore open her cage, broke wind...

Re: Help Chancellor find a horse???

I just saw a friend at a Hunter Pace this weekend. She was riding her 5 year old, 16.1 hand (?) dark brown TB/Cleveland Bay mare. She bred, raised, and trained this mare herself. The mare is quite attractive and seems laid back. My friend has decided to sell her because (I think) she is too quiet &a...
