Re: Are internet BBs still relevant?

Re: French horn almost 2yrs in

Great job! I can't believe you're playing this in such short time. The horn is the most difficult brass instrument because, as you know, the partials are so close together up high. Because you are (thankfully) playing on a double horn, at least you can choose whether to play the notes on the F or th...

Re: Dental Implants

Going through that right now. #9 was knocked out many decades ago when I was 7. It was put back in; root canal in 1984. Great until last summer. Told it would likely go bad and I could take care of it on my own schedule or wait for it to blow. I'm a professional musician, so I have to have front tee...

Re: Tell us about YOU.

Musicdoc here, same as I was several years ago at UDBB. I haven't been here in just over a year. Conducting the orchestra takes a lot of time and planning, and I'm still playing bassoon in a couple of other groups. Plus a full time job.... I've decided to redo the footing in my arena and put my mare...

Re: Puerto Rico ( Irma sounds terrifying)

One more thing, I'm so glad we (my-ex) decided to spend the money on the hurricane shutters. 12 years ago I think it cost ~$3500. It took a while to figure out how to install them, and I am a 5'2" small woman. But they're bolted on now. My sure-grip pliers (not the right name) died just before ...

Re: Puerto Rico ( Irma sounds terrifying)

Thank you for your good wishes!! At this point (12:28 EST), all of the shutters on the house and the barn have been installed and double-checked. They're saying I will have 88 mph winds ~2 a.m. Monday. (Same for Plant City, unless it changes tomorrow.) I got horse first aid things from my vet today....

Re: Puerto Rico ( Irma sounds terrifying)

Okay, another day to prepare. Got most of the hurricane shutters up, will do the barn and lanai tomorrow.

Realized that in the stress of things, I sounded pretty selfish. I'm sorry.

Hoping for the best for all of us in Irma's path.

Re: Puerto Rico ( Irma sounds terrifying)

I'm staying put outside of Tampa, FL. An acquaintance from a few years ago called me last night--haven't seen them in > 2 years at least, and asked if they can come and stay with me. They are only in St. Petersburg, less than an hour away.. Um, how do I say No. Why don't they get a hotel? I have foo...

Re: Total solar eclipse!

Many public libraries in the path of the eclipse will have free, certified sunglasses for viewing the eclipse. Google it to find them. (Hendersonville NC public library, libraries in Greenville, SC, etc.).

Re: Tell us about YOU.

Hey, Sunshine2Me, I was hoping you'd respond. Yes, I remember your daughter playing the bassoon. I haven't been on the DDBB hardly at all, but will try to figure out to put up the pictures from (30!!) years ago when I jumped the horse--over--the bassoon. Or maybe I'll send it privately...I'd only ha...

Re: Tell us about YOU.

Thank you, Canyon!

Being here is getting me interested in riding again. My Hanoverian mare has enjoyed her sabbatical, I think!

Although it will be in the 90's later this week, here in Florida...and with no rain.

Re: Tell us about YOU.

Musicdoc has been missing from UDBB for a long time. I was curious a few days ago and found a lot of you folks here. Glad to recognize so many of you! I'm riding a lot less, and conducting a lot more. I really love it (the conducting). The orchestra is doing extremely well. The board promoted me 2.5...
