Re: What breeds? New puppy after our old girl crossed over

I am in NC, so could be Catahoula or Plott Hound mix (state dog of NC). He was the only brindle of his littermates. They were more tricolor or fawn with black muzzle. Here is the whole litter (he is the guy in front). I see the shepherd a lot more in his brothers and sisters than in him:

Re: Sick dog: Update, she's gone...picture.

We didn't think we'd get another dog quite so soon, but a nearby rescue had some pups, and you know how it goes. So meet the mighty Thor: Thor1.JPG I can't seem to post it rotated the right way, but seeing as he spends half of his time sideways or on his belly, it's a pretty apt likeness. Any guesse...

I am late to this after being out of the country, but I'm so sorry. What a noble face. And spirit, it sounds like!

I hope I did this right...it's probably HUGE, but so was her heart! This picture was taken one week before we put her down. A friend came over and did a final photo shoot for us.

Re: Sick dog; Update, she's gone, how do I post a pic?

Hi, everyone, Sorry I've been away: we high-tailed it to the beach last week to recover. Last Tuesday morning, my husband took her in to put her down. He said it was peaceful and beautiful. I truly believe it was the perfect time: not a day too early, not a day too late. She had a wonderful last wee...

Re: Sick dog; there's no hope, is there? Update, not so great.

Better a day too early, than an hour too late. Yes! We went to the oncologist today; it looks like it is stage 5 lymphoma. They gave us some steroids, but that's just short term. We are probably looking at days rather than weeks. A friend is going to come out this weekend and take some final portra...

Re: Sick dog; there's no hope, is there?

Vet called back; looks like it's either lymphoma or leukemia. We will go to an oncologist on Friday. But even then, I'm not sure we want to do chemo on a 14 year-old dog. My husband (it's really his dog), is more inclined to do so; he thinks she could possible make it to 19-20 years, but that seems ...

Guess the breed? New puppy after our old girl crossed over

UPDATE September. Scroll down for puppy picture! Our old girl crossed the bridge in July, in the most peaceful way possible. And now we have a new puppy...not peaceful, but a joy! *** Our lovely dog (lab mix we got from the shelter when she was a baby) is 14. She is obviously getting up there in yea...

Ditto what Flight said - The Black Mirror! The episode with Bryce Dallas Howard was really eye-opening, especially if you Facebook.

That's the one I have! Love it. Stays sharp. Takes up some room in the counter, so I tend to put it away and forget I have it for months on end, but then I pull it out again and have a blast with it.

Heh...yep. I was enrolled at the university there for a year, doing dissertation research (Germanistik).

I have to say: I've lived in several German cities, but Muenster was by far the rainiest!
Edited to add: and I say that as someone from Seattle!

Ahhh...that brings back memories! I can't believe it's been 15 (!) years, but I used to do some of those similar trails...but only the paved ones, because I did them on Rollerblades! I used to take the bus to Hiltrup I think, then put my skates on and go! Down to the canal, all over the place. On bi...

There is a really good crustless Swiss chard tart on the Internet. It has dairy and eggs, but is gluten free. Also, you can make it ahead and serve at room temp. Make-ahead is always my highest priority when I entertain!

Bananas are bad luck at sea; at least on fishing vessels. Not sure why, but they are taboo on a lot of deep sea fishing boats.

You took the words right out of my mouth. When that song comes on the radio (or actually, any of her songs) I cannot change stations quick enough. Yesterday, my two options were Adele and an ad from Crazy Kevin the car dealer. I happily went with Crazy Kevin.

OP,

Somehow I just deleted three paragraphs of pedantic lecturing (your gain...I can get really self-righteous), but the Cliff's notes version is don't buy this house. Don't buy *any* house right now. As others have advised you, get a decent chunk of savings and be patient.

(swim, not riding) Lesson etiquette advice?

This could just as well be a riding lesson advice question: My eight year-old has been taking swim lessons on and off from the same person for 2+ years. We like her. Except: my daughter has been struggling with butterfly stroke, and even though I have mentioned several times that this was our curren...

Reuben Sandwich! I always forget how good those are. Half corned beef, half pastrami. My brother shames me. They mill their own rye into flour for their bread, make their own corned beef, and use their own sauerkraut they pickled this summer. But even with Pepperidge farm rye bread and deli meat, it...

Swim! Now that I don't ride anymore, it's the new dressage! Seriously, they have a lot in common: no matter how often you practice, there is always something new to work on, and the slightest change in body position can mean a world of difference. Plus, with both, you end up with horrible looking ha...
