Re: A New Normal?

I already worked from home pretty much full time, with very occasional forays to meet with clients, or work in a coffee shop, so I had little professional adjustment back in February/March. I am a creative, but I have friends and colleagues who I maintain a slack channel with to share ideas and crit...

Since I have no good recent photos of Anz (I need to fix that, bad, bad horse person!), here are a few of her from a few years ago. I managed to get in a ride this morning — and even run to the feed store — before the slush/rain moved in (we're on the eastern edge of the big snow storm). The entire herd was on edge, and helpfully running laps around the arena. Maia was doing her best tense giraffe impression, so I figured our ri...

Blob — have you tried removing yourself from the situation? I know I start doing weird things with my aids when we're not getting something right, and it becomes a self-fulfilling mess. I use the spiral or leg yield to canter with greenies. It works great. At some point, once they're with the program over half the tine, I quit pushing into the canter. So trot leg yield to canter [horse rushes], come back to walk. Start over. Sometimes a ground pole prevents rushing — leg yield out,...

I should clarify. I don't use food as an unlimited lure. I ride early morning, so light isn't a problem, but frozen or saturated footing can be a challenge. Oftentimes that's easily solved by riding in the pasture — we've got a large field with a significant grade that drains well. And the grass is so thick it's padded in the winter. I don't ride out ther...
