Mikey sounds like a great find!! Goofy is fun :D I can't view the video, but so jealous you're getting to ride! Between the wet and then me travelling, the past few weeks and this upcoming week are a loss. Our outdoor arena is finally showing wear and tear from all the rain, and I am not introducin...

I did another jumping clinic, but for me this time with "my" hunt mare, Dagny. She's the best. And then we did a poles and cavaletti clinic for Mikey. Working on his confidence. He did so well. He tried to canter some poles, Mr. goofy... I want to do a couple of those before we start doing...

Taking notes as I'll be showing my own horse (wow, that's a statement I never thought I'd say again) either this year or next year. For my 4 1/2 yo, open up the throatlatch. I saw in a different thread (I think OTOB) that horses who really reach under themselves may tend to want to come behind the vertical before they find their balance. He does easily come behind the vertical, we are really aware of that. I have to be very care...

What a fun clinic! Gymnastics with a kind, knowledgeable instructor. Gah, she had to lead him through the first time, he was like nope, nope, nope, nope... and every time something changed, the nope/hesitation came back out. I probably could have been more insistent with him and caught it a little e...

So, we moved to our new farm closer to my house in early November. Great move for both of us, though I loved being at my trainer's farm. But we are now 10 minutes from my instructor, bonus. Lots of trails and fields, which will be even better if ever stops raining. The indoor is wonderful and I've l...

Re: The Warm-up Arena or Crowded Arena (and your terrified horse)

I had a lesson a couple of years ago in a crowded warm up that was SUPER helpful. My mare is small, and gets intimidated by big horses coming at her or behind her - and there was a big, noisy stallion in the ring, and the rider would ride up pretty close to the other riders. The lesson involved - F...
