Re: Jingles for my QH mare-Update: she's gone

I just wanted to stop by and thank everyone again for their thoughts and comments. It really does mean a lot, and I've also shared the thread with my mom (who used to lurk on the old board, although she never signed up or posted), and they mean a lot to her too. My SO came to visit me in Philadelphi...

Re: Emily Post wedding question

I was in grad school and had no money extra whatsoever. My cousin, whose family was rolling in money, was getting married to an investment banker in Princeton NJ (across the country from me), and sent me an invite. Because our families had not been close, I thought I'd scare up the flight money and...

Re: One year already--i can't do this

I'm late reading and replying to this, but I wanted to send more hugs and positive thoughts your way. I'm glad you were able to spend the day looking after your self AND with good food and company. I'd also like to echo Chisamba's beautiful words: i would like to send you a hug and i would like to w...

Re: Jingles for my QH mare-Update: she's gone

Thank you all again so much. Your words are all very touching and bring a lot of comfort. As so many of you have mentioned, I am relieved she went peacefully and was not stressed, and I am just beyond thankful that my mom was able to be there with her. I can't even imagine how much harder it would b...

Re: Jingles for my QH mare-Update: she's gone

Thanks all. I'm sorry you lost your beautiful girl. What a wonderful photo - is that Charles de Kunffy? Yep it was Charles de Kunffy. We rode in one clinic with him . . . I can't remember the exact year, but I'm thinking around 2005-6 (damn time flies!). I had taken clinics and done some short WS-st...

Re: Jingles for my QH mare

I got a call from my mom at 9:30 a.m today and she's gone. She laid down this morning and it was apparently quite clear she had no interest in getting up and that it was her time, so they euthanized her. When my mom arrived she was laying comfortably and was peaceful. My mom actually thought the vet...

Re: Jingles for my QH mare

Thanks all. I really appreciate the support and your kind words. I guess I felt silly getting so emotional b/c she is her mid-twenties so I figured I shouldn't be so shocked that there's health issues. But I just saw her in September and she seemed so happy and and healthy in her retirement (arthrit...

Jingles for my QH mare-Update: she's gone

Hi All, [UPDATE: She was euthanized early Sunday morning, more details in post below] so as per my last thread, I'm spending a month in Philly on a research fellowship. My plans for this weekend were to get a bunch of non-research school work done (I have a bunch of December 1st deadlines), as my SO...

Re: Tell us about YOU.

MagicEm - love your piggie house!!! They look highly stressed. Ha! They have a rough life of eating, sleeping, pooping, and asking for more veggies--it requires a lot of naps  . I can't take any credit for the house (other than keeping it clean and full of hay)--it was my super creative and ha...

Re: Packing for a Month in Philadelphia?

Hi all! I just wanted to thank you all for the advice and give a quick update. I've been in Philly a week and it's been going really well. I am actually less homesick for my SO and my pets (guinea pigs and horse) than I expected. My room is a bit blah in terms of decoration, but the house is super c...

Re: Do you "like" your own posts on Facebook and here?

Add me to the list that hates the blackmail/chainmail/"repost if you feel the same, and I know who really will" type posts.

I'm also on the list that doesn't like my own posts and roll my eyes when I see people who do.

Re: Packing for a Month in Philadelphia?

I am not a serious runner, but I do enjoy hiking and the outdoors so the Schuylkill River Trail sounds like it might be another good place for me to spend my weekends. I love the idea of bringing scarves! That's a great idea (both in terms of weather and accessorizing). I've got most of my daily clo...

Re: Packing for a Month in Philadelphia?

Thanks everyone! I likely am overthinking (what I tend to do when I am anxious about something that's new to me). I was planning on doing laundry . . . they don't advertise laundry facilities in the house but I'm sure there are laundromats nearby and going there on a Saturday a.m. is a great idea. A...

Packing for a Month in Philadelphia?

So I leave early Monday a.m. to spend 4 weeks in Philadelphia on a research fellowship at the American Philosophical society. I am staying near the Walnut Locust Station and I'll be walking everyday to the APS which is east of Washington Square Parks. According to Google Maps it's just under a 20 mi...

Re: Tell us about YOU.

I'm also loving this thread! I was MagicEm on UDBB and am MagicEm here. I can't remember why I chose it, but I like the ring and a bunch of my friends call me "Em" (short from Emily). I had another name before that on UDBB and then I forgot my login info, but I forgot what that name was :l...

Re: Proposed rule change - no more double at 3rd

If used correctly, I think certain horses can benefit from a double at 3rd. However, that said, I support the proposed rule change. I know several people who struggle with movements in 2nd level (movements that are traditionally designed to prep and prefer for 3rd level) who skip ahead to 3rd b/c th...
