Re: In which I'm reminded how much horse shopping sucks!

Just to round this off, eventually Loony Tunes Seller asked me if I would lease the horses off her, break them for her, then return them so she could use them in her Christian Missionary. I kid you not. Since then I have been looking for a jumper and discovering that I am gonna be out $35k ...

Casually looking for my last horse

My horse has come sound and I will ride him through the winter if he stays sound but I will retire him by next March when he is 22. I will find him small herd so he can move around and stay as comfortable as possible. The high ringbone on the LF is now visible and is growing quickly. I wonder if tha...

Oh now RB I mainly do in hand before each ride and that must be purely diagonal, on the bit, dead straight, f/d/o, and he has to do it with me on one side then the other. That is part of my in hand work prior to each ride and I am very particular about the in hand work. In the counted walk, it stays...

Khall no I am not trying to diagonalize. As Ammy Ilk (tm), I think the risk of ruining the walk would be too great. My horse will do half steps so I don't need to go to collected walk to work towards piaffe which I will not be doing with my present horse anyway. I used counted walk to raise the with...

I have done a bunch of counted walk. I used to do it every ride. The main reason is so I can say I combine French and German. Just kidding!

I do it as slow as possible. That's the point. I think if I did it faster it would be collected walk but I have not tried to speed it up.

If the horse passes the buyer commits to buying. I would only do this with an FEI draft cross mare. This method weeds out the 95% of sellers who know the horse is sitting due to a lameness or illness.

You have to assume the horses who are out of work are out for a horse related reason. When I see those ads, if I was interested, I would ask the person to put the horse with a trainer for 3 months and if sound then I would do a PPE and if passed, retroactively pay for the three months training.

They are not doing BBM up through the levels. A horse loses balance in a PSG test at least a few times and those people never come back to halt. That's because they fix the balance WITHIN the movement.
