Re: Dog Paw Injury

Thanks all! He is looking better this morning - his limp at the walk is almost gone. He still has a hitch when he tries to run - which slows him down. That is probably a good thing. The wound looks like it is healing well and he isn't licking it at all any more. I think he is going to live to get un...

Dog Paw Injury

A day and a half ago my 8 year old 70+ pound Cattle/boarder collie dog mix got stepped on by my horse - across his toes on his left front foot. It was bad enough that it took a layer of skin off over his middle toe. He is limping - he will put weight on it, but not for long. He still walks to/from t...

Re: Opinions on browbands

In my opinion all the bling gets lost on his/her lovely gray head. The bling (if any) needs to be set off by something dark closest to his face. That is why I like what he/she is wearing in the photo.

Re: Waterproof treatment for blankets

Thanks everyone!! Off to buy all the Camp Dry I can get from Amazon!!

Does anyone wash their own blankets and/or sheets? I have a standard High Efficiency front loading washing machine and I'm debating washing at least the sheets in there... Good or bad idea??

Waterproof treatment for blankets

I never thought I would have blankets stay in one piece until their waterproof quit working, but with the advent of the 1200 denier blankets I have finally done it! I have seen several products in the online tack stores, one was a spray on, the other you washed the blanket with. Which is best? I nee...

Re: Baltimore and Area Snow Storm Update

I live about 40 minutes north and west of Richmond - and the first flakes are just starting to fall... We are forecast to get 24+ inches. This will cripple our area for at least a week! No joke - the schools are already cancelled for today, and I bet it will be a week or more before they open again....

Re: Feed Room Sinks...yay or nay? Thoughts and feedback please?

I wondered about that concern re the sink in the wash bay area as far as scrambling horses, but wasn't sure if it was a real worry. Both the tack/feed room and wash bay areas work out to be about 11'x18' so the wash bay is pretty substantial and I don't want to waste space. (No it doesn't work to m...

I still think he is a plant. By whom I don't know but he seems hell bent on attracting the wing nuts and espousing such vitriol that he surely won't get the official party nomination. Now that he's making noises he might go independent again he stands the chance of being a real spoiler. Perhaps an ...

Thanks to all for the responses. I think I will give Pentosan a try. First because of my anxiety giving IV injections and second for the cost. I'll let you know how it works!

Pentosan vs Legend

I currently give my horse IV Legend injections every month. And Legend does work - really, really well. As long as I keep it up monthly - he does great, but if I let it slip a week or two beyond a month, I quickly have difficulties getting him to connect and he is often braced against the bit. He do...

Re: Why am I not losing weight?

Weigh and write down everything you eat every day for a week. Then go back and add up the calories, just to give you some idea of whether it's a metabolism problem, or an excess calories problem. Eating healthy is one thing, but cutting enough calories to lose weight is another entirely. I don't ha...

Scapular/upper body stability exercises

I tend to tip forward with my shoulders when I ride - which I know makes my seat ineffective. My trainer and I have been very carefully evaluating what fixes the tip, and we think it is in part a weakness in my scapular area. I need to pull that area more down and into my core to avoid the tip. If I...

Well I think I am going to give this bridle a try! MC, i appreciate your posting this! I just bought a new horse. An 11 year Swedish horse who I adore. One more vote for the soaker tub! I LOVE mine - it is my retreat! I have tried the tubs with jets and the noise bothers me, and I agree with what others have said, they never get or stay hot enough. I just love soaking up to my neck in hot water listening to the wonderful sounds of silence - or my a...

Re: Micklem Bridle

Another place to look for used tack are the various Facebook groups. English Tack Trader is one, there's also one for Horseware products only. I see more listed on those nowadays than on Ebay. It's a bit of a leap of faith to purchase that way, but I think PayPal offers a bit of protection. I've bo...

I am sure this was discussed to death on UDBB and I would have just searched for my answers there, but....
