I've found these videos by Catherine Haddad very helpful for this topic. IMO this relaxed riding shows excellent harmony with a big moving horse. Following her tips made a huge difference for me.

Re: Anyone try/like HKM breeches?
The price is converted to US dollars and shipping is costly (no other fees applied). I've purchased Pikeur breeches at great prices even with shipping from European sellers. However, high shipping cost would prevent me from returning if they do not fit. It sounds like I better stick to the model I k...

Anyone try/like HKM breeches?
I came across this German brand of breeches and wondered how they might fit? What is their quality like? In the past, I've only worn Pikeur Laguana style as I am narrow hips - no curves. Euroseat breeches to much hip for me. Anyone try this brand and do you like it? I like their bright colors. ;) ht...

demi - thank you for your explanation for how you use still seat. It is Very helpful. I really like what you wrote about Kalman. Consistent harmony is the GOAL for all rides. Thinking about this earlier ride when I had some difficult canter departs - I resorted to that swooping seat you described. I tipped forward so big mistake for my position. Re: Improving position, biomechanics?
Yes - I just came in from an early ride (extreme heat here) and tried some canter. The knees down is easy for me to maintain with sitting trot but not the case with the canter. Granted we are working on our transitions as some days there are good ones and today - well not so good. So if I slip back ...

For what it's worth - I think it's critical that riders learn not to ride with "piano hands" like a water skier. The wrists must be turned so the hands have the thumb on top like Sally Swift describes in her Centered Riding book - "like holding a baby bird". Likewise, the pinkie ...

Re: Rein-Aids
I remember this topic was discussed on the UDBB with mixed responses. Some riders/trainers were very opposed as they felt it did not help rider/horse learn contact. Others found they liked it as a learning tool for new riders not to balance/hang on a horse. I did use these reins on a former western ...
