Re: Girth for Forward Girth Groove

I experienced something similar with my gelding and the fairfax, too... He's not suddenly a saint by any means, but he's freer in his shoulder and more willing to move forward.

Re: Fairfax dressage girth: 26"

I didn't find them to measure or fit small; it's more that the girths are most effective when you can avoid the buckles falling near the elbow. Fairfax recommends that the girth come close to the edge of the saddle pad, while also not interfering with the rider's leg. For many people, that means a l...

Re: Fairfax dressage girth: 26"

I fought buying them for a long time. REALLY FOUGHT. Tried a lot of different anatomical (Total Saddle Fit, Prestige, County, Nunn Finer etc.), soft, squishy (Le Tixerant), and real mohair string girths. My horse is pretty clearly a fan of this girth. Immediately better reach in the front end and le...

Re: What will happen to today's young men and women?

Nah, they're not all like that. There's definitely entitlement, and that certain-Ivy-league-school that scruffy mentioned is definitely heavily enriched for them (the ones who figure they're qualified for my job before they've even graduated). But I started teaching at another college in the area an...

Re: Does/did your horse have a special buddy?

Gypsy's a bit of a loner, though I think that it's more of a show than any active dislike of being in the herd. The boys tend to gravitate towards her, and she understands her place in the herd quite well - she'll be alpha if pressed, but prefers to play the heavy and back up whatever alpha-mare say...

Re: Hating car shopping, looking up recalls, etc.

See, there's such a wide variety in engine designs that the number of cylinders doesn't really make a good characteristic for 'rules' anymore. There are 4-cylinder engines out there making far more horsepower (and torque) than 6- or 8-cylinder engines. The Ecoboost engines used in the F-series truck...

If I might ask, what's the reason behind 4 vs. 6 cylinder preference?

Re: How to find a GOOD lawyer?

well, geez. *rude gesture* The lawyers I've worked with have been good enough not to charge me for the initial phone consultation in which they outline their fee structures. It's not uncommon for them to use their more junior people for a lot of the grunt-work; my attorneys have been very up-front t...
