Re: Should the training forum be combined with the Tack and Apparel forum
Well, it sounds like the majority are not interested, but here was my logic. While historically the tack and apparel trunk has been separate from the Training forum, they truly are quite related. Findings boots, bits, bridles, even good breeches are all issues for those that "train" and so...

Re: New Suggestions Thread
Let me first say, I love the new Definitely Dressage. Seems like everyone is taking a nice tone with each other and it's been fun to post on here. :) I have a wild idea. So I know historically, the tack and apparel trunk has been separate from the Training forum, but after thinking about it, I would...

Where in the south to get custom boots measured?
I'm looking for someone in the south that can measure and help me order custom boots. I've heard there is a good person down in wellington, but I'm hoping not to drive more than 7 hours to get this done. Atlanta would be great. Does anybody know of anyone in the south (other than Wellington) where I...

Mountaineer - I'm excited to try them when they arrive!
Speaking of winter riding boots, if anybody is interested in the ice riders, they are on sale for $89 on tack of the day today.

Let me start by saying I LOVE his look. I think he is super duper adorable and I'm sure you are so in love. From strictly a conformation standpoint, the two things that I would say are not my absolute favorite is that he is a little "camped out behind" and even though it seems that he carr...

Re: Thinline saddle pads - do you use / like it?
Josette - I swear by this thinline trifect pad! No bulk, but nice protection. My horse has literally never been back sore and so I'm a believer. Now granted he's not the type to complain, but I believe that as much as we've amped up the sitting trot, it has been a good bet. If you haven't already or...

Re: Quarter sheets (and static electricity)
I ordered a version of the following and they specifically say that it will eliminate static. I've only used it once, so I can't say for sure, but I didn't have any static on my first go round. Good luck! http://www.victorycanter.com/Centaur-Turbo-Dry-Sheet-467780.html?gclid=CjwKEAiAkb-zBRC2upezwuyg...

Re: Best winter riding glove
I just ordered the Heritage winter gloves from Smartpak and I'm sending them back. They are little thicker than I might like normally, but if you live in a really cold area, they are probably a good bet for winter riding. I'm sending them back because they weren't long enough for my fingers. I have ...

Re: Attractive winter riding boots?
Thanks everyone for the recommendations! I decided to order the Ariat Bromonts today based on your recommendations. They seemed like the best looking option for riding. I'll report back once they arrive...and once it is warm enough to wear them. It's been so crazy warm down south, I'm wondering whet...

Re: Speaking of rule changes, I'm kind of horrified by this new rule: blindfolds?
It would nice if before people got all pantied up that they actually look at the existing rules and talk to people actually competing and working in Para competitions and find out more about what the topic is actually about. Without knowing anything about this competitor and her reasons for the sui...

Flying Lily - I almost just fell out of my chair at the price of those boots. I would rather go barefoot than pay that price for a pair of winter boots. ;) I'm going to order new normal higher end boots this spring, so I don't want to blow the budget on winter boots. I'm also not into paddock ...

Attractive winter riding boots?
Hello DDBB, I just ordered a pair of Mountain horse Ice Rider 3 winter riding boots and I'm kind of bummed about the look. From the pictures before I bought they looked nice and sleek. When they arrived, they have these HUGE gusset type things on the back of the calf that look terrible. I can't get ...

Re: Speaking of rule changes, I'm kind of horrified by this new rule: blindfolds?
Interesting. I have to say at first I thought the same thing about it being hard to call, but after reflection I don't think this is particularly hard to call. First, no two disabilities are ever equal. Para riders within each of those classifications will vary from "just slipped in" to &q...

Since we've been chatting about rule changes lately: http://horsesdaily.com/article/disabled-british-athlete-takes-paralympic-committee-fight-her-right-compete I don't follow a lot of paradressage, but I happened to just see this article and I have to say I'm a bit disgusted at the International Par...

Re: Holiday Euro Style
First of all. "Euros"?! Right now, the EU just by itself consists of 28 member states, and there are 47 countries on the euopean continent. Every single country has it's own cultural traditions, habits and practices. So, no, the "euros" do not go on two months of holiday, and I ...

Holiday Euro Style
I've always been told that at some point the Euros go on holiday for a month and the horses take about a month off and that this occurs at most barns. I have always been at barns where we ride and train all year round with no more than a week off most of the time. So, my big question is, should hors...

I know EG is not always popular on these boards, but this is really quite nice. His hands just look so beautiful and tactful. There are so many really lovely moments in there and I think this is the best I've seen the horse go so far.

Re: Besides WB - what do you ride
Haflinger! I was always a total warmblood snob and wanted nothing to do with horses under 17hands. Then this totally ridiculous haflinger showed up at the barn. Game over. I'm obsessed and want hundreds more. I rode a Irish Sport horse for a year back in college and he was a great mover and had a go...

Short necks versus long necks
One thing I don't think has been discussed much on these boards is how neck length affects training issues. So I thought I might start the convo on it. :) I was always told that you want a horse with a long neck, but I have to say, my horse has a shorter thicker neck and now that I have it, I think ...

Re: Having Sticker Shock: How much do your trainers charge at a show
It does depend on how many riders, horses, coaching and classes. A trainer may be giving up 500 to $800 worth of income a day because weekends are your income building days, depending on lesson fees and number of lessons. So unless most students are going, it's expensive. I don't disagree with this...

Re: Having Sticker Shock: How much do your trainers charge at a show
My trainer's policy is $100 per day + expenses split among riders. Which seems totally reasonable... except the part about... 500/weekend + expenses for riders going alone or with only one other rider. So, that caused me some sticker shock and now I'm feeling like that is way too expensive to go sho...

Having Sticker Shock: How much do your trainers charge at a show
It's hard to create a poll for this, but I'm going to try. Please feel free to leave comments with details. I'm trying to gauge what is "normal." You can select more than one poll option because I know many trainers charge a fee + expenses. So, there you can select both an estimate of the ...

Test Question: SI - then turn right
Hi dressage friends, I'm prepping for an upcoming show (fingers crossed that we will actually make it to) and I want to make sure I'm straight on a couple of exercises. Hopefully we are going to make our 2nd level debut (exciting/scary). So, correct me if I'm wrong below: In 2-1, you ride K-E Should...

Re: Proposed rule change - no more double at 3rd
I think the double at 3rd is fine. Of course, there are some that abuse it, but there are some that abuse whips and spurs and nosebands, etc. and we allow those things (and rightfully so). So, in all cases we trust people to do what is right by the horse. My horse will likely go in the double at 3rd...

Re: Helpful tips for travers?
I always say do it in the walk a bunch to begin for both your sake and the horses sake. First, it shows your horse what you mean and second, it's an easy way to get yourself straightened out on the exercise. When I do haunches in, I think ride the front end straight, ask the haunches to come in with...

Re: Introducing changes... Any advice appreciated :)
So, I have helped to put changes on a few of overly-counter canter confirmed horses, who would rather counter canter all day than change and I've found one exercise that has worked really well for all of them. Go down the quarter line in walk, pick up the outside lead (counter canter), jump a stride...

Re: The Double. Gulp.
I've started several horses in the double and I usually find that if you put it on like it's no big deal and get on a go for a walk the first day, then you can usually ride relatively normally the second day. I think if you make a it a "big deal," they perceive it as a big deal and then it...

Re: Ah HA! I TOLD you so.....(Color Bias)
don't think you can interpret this as a colour bias necessarily. I think breed would be a better predictor of scores than colour. If you consider all the breeds whose scores would be incorporated into the solid colour group versus those that would be included in the block and spotted colour groups,...

It had to be done!  :D ...But don't worry, it's sort of a tangential rollkur thread. :) Recently the western pleasure world has seen an uproar on facebook because of some show footage and the following warmup footage: http://thehorseaholic.com/how-western-pleasure-horses-are-warmed-up...
