Re: New Year, New Goals - January-February 2022
Ok finally going to commit to a goal this year which is being able to do working equitation one handed so I can move up the levels. I'm sure it's just a practice thing, and so if I make sure I practice everytime I ride, in 12 months time, hopefully I've figured it out. Our covid numbers are now doin...

Tanga - pretty good getting piaffe just like that (voice, holding vid, riding another horse at same time etc!) What a cutie
Demi - I've been riding with her a few years now. Maybe 3 or 4? Not regularly enough unfortunately, but hoping more now that I have Pivo meet to use.

Pop her into shoulder in or travers if she gets too low and see what happens. It tends to get them to raise in front without the tussle

Demi, the middle is nice! But in my eye just breathe out and let a little bit of tension out of both of you so your arms relax (see the muscle showing in your forearm?) maybe even your fingers a bit, to let her neck drop a smidge and her face forward a touch. But it's a really different posture to t...

My instructor does online lessons too, where you submit a vid and she will analyse it but she takes a lot of screenshots and teaches you to look at what muscles the horse is using in a moment, or what your body position is doing, and/or what your horses body is doing in that moment. I've found this ...

While he's not built downhill, he is a breed that far prefers to throw into the chest and shoulders to do anything and thus use the underside of his neck especially at the base to create power. Definitely a smoother trans in the second vid. When you pause the first vid to try and see what's going on, it's like she needs to lift her head to balance what's going on behind. The gullet is more open in the higher hands pic, right? It's nice in both :) You want to activate that trapezius muscle just in front of the wither and under the saddle. Lifting hands and then getting a bit more stretch forwards and slightly downwards to help with that but not closing the gullet. G...

I do the complete halting and waiting for a release - big breath, chew, shake etc for Ding. You have to be really patient and wait for it at first, and then it comes sooner and then similar to Chisamba, you can offer a stretch and release without halting. Take a breath and shake off your own tension...

The barrel rein slaps was more for the quickness to respond, halt to gallop. Not about the galloping, although it did help to get his blood up. But the otherside of that is tension, so it's a balance.

I agree with Chisamba, that competition trot and canter isn't collected anymore. It's the 'second trot' thing which I was taught, by one of our top riders is to add passage to your trot and them make it as big as you can! So it's really like a high medium trot. Same with half passes. They are meant ...

I 'stretch' pretty much like Chisamba described. As a reward, as a test, as a reset (especially for Ding being half friesian and wanting to put his neck too high). I don't tend to stretch for very long, a few strides, a circle or two, a short side, or probably as deep/low as what I've seen others do...
