I can't imagine what it must be like for them to have left _everything_, to have _nothing_, then to have some hope dangled in front of them and that snatched away. We really must hold these people close in our hearts, because they have nothing else.

Maybe this doesn't work so well with leather, but I've seen halters used as a pot hanger for a plant, and that seemed like a good 'memory' re-use. I don't associate browbands with a specific horse, so I don't have a recommendation for that. Turn them into bracelets?

Of all the places in the world to introduce 'bling', horses seems like one of the least likely. It's kind of like white breeches (which, yes, I know are an approved garb). They just seem such an unlikely pairing.
