Re: Can we get a jump on April/May training goals thread?

Really nice to read everyone's progress! Everything for me lately has been going wrong! The latest was my car didn't pass it's roadworthy and would have cost more than the value of the car itself to fix. Seeing as it's done over 300,000 kms I decided not to bother getting it fixed so currently carel...

Flight - I don't do nearly enough lateral work. Mainly just a bit of shoulder-fore and leg yield here and there.

Last night my ride focused on flexions (he was SO stiff in the poll - at first he didn't even respond to my indirect rein aid so I think we will be doing a lot more from now on.)

Now that you're asking more work, it's harder so he will resist. So, it's from this point on that you choose which way you approach it. Sounds like you are doing what I would do though. Start small, ask for a little bit and then when he has that, add a little bit more and so on. Agree. We only have...

This is really interesting. I'm VERY new to dressage (started lessons in October last year) so I basically go by what my instructor says. This makes real sense though. This is Red's evasion to bending through the rib cage and using himself correctly. He just doesn't want to give with his jaw. Just had a Google of the Heat Stress Index. What's suggested is up to 120, proceed as normal. If over 150 consider riding at a different time or lower intensity/time and anything over 180 do not work the horse!

Thanks for letting me know about it, will be very helpful!

I think the sun has a huge impact. There was decent cloud cover yesterday evening (including thunder, but no rain!) But it didn't feel too hot at all and Red didn't even really break a sweat. Kept the ride short but that was mainly due to riding bareback as he has a sore in his girth area :( day off...

Girths for sensitive skin TB

Haven't had any girth sores in a few months but one appeared yesterday :(

I ride in a wintec so also use a wintec shaped girth. Thinking about getting a sheepskin cover or trying a string girth?

In your experiences, what has helped in preventing sores with sensitive horses?
