For years and years and years I just stayed everything in a simple snaffle. Now there are a thousand options and I still haven't found a thing that seems to give the horses a comfotable tongue. Those big western saddles don't let me feel my horse. Imho
I read a few tests. The side pass and the pivot are the only things I see as contradictory to " real" dressage but I only read to 4th level.

Moutaineer, I didn't say dressage show were dying, I said there used to be multiplies of horses and classes in the lower levels and fewer in the upper levels, now the bigger classes are 3rd and above. I rememeber the fuss when certain Olympic riders presented their new young horses and had to post and looked like rank beginners. I think it caused such a did they hired young horse riders for the next presentations.

Long reins are my constant problem. We been when I think they are short they are long. Every clinician every friend whose advice I like. Let's be honest is you can carry your hands closer to the neck it just looks neater.

I find I can get a better lengthening for most of mine if I post but to really get a good medium (or extended), sitting for me gives me more control in keeping a horse up and open, not falling on the forehand.
