Re: Pulling shoes to grow heel on the hinds
I think it's an individual horse thing. Conformation ally some horses have flatter feet and or thinner soles. My vet recently xrayed feet on two different horses for different reasons and was thrilled that the laminitic mare had 1.5 and 1.7cm of sole depth. The other horse is not laminitic and had e...

Other possible option that I thought of but did not implement. Give everyone 30 days notice that you are doubling (or tripling) their board in order to hire someone to help with the chores. Give them the date the new board is due. Then if anyone chooses to stay at least the hassle might be worth you...

When I made my decision to get out of boarding the hardest part was getting rid of the boarders. Basically I just told each owner that I was getting out of the boarding business. I told them that there was just too much work involved and since my profit had been tiny or non-existent it put me in a v...

BTDT....After 4 years of boarding 6 to 7 horses plus my two and fearing the IRS since I was making minimal profit I came to a conclusion. The ONLY way to make it work was to expand, board MORE horses and hire good help for at least 20 hours per week OR get out of the boarding business. It just isn't...

My stalls are 12 x 24 and I put in a 12 foot gate/door that goes to the turnout in each stall so I can scrape them out with the tractor if needed as well as get to a down horse. Texsuze I asked our managing pharmacist about kitty grooming and transdermal gels. She said that most of it is absorbed within the first hour so that if you separate them for an hour after applying and then wash off the ears another kitty grooming shouldn't be a problem.

Vet compounding pharmacies can make most meds in a liquid which is easier to give. Get the med in a high enough strength so that the dose is a tiny amount ie 1/4 ml. However the BEST alternatives are transdermal gels! Not all meds are effective in this format, but if the one you need is GO FOR IT. Y...
