Tanga is in N. California (East Bay) as am I. 2nd week of shelter in place completed for us. We started early. The first week was definitely easier than the second. DH and I have been out in public spaces maybe 3 times tops to get take out dinner and grocery shopping. I prepped before the shutdown s...
Yes, 1 of 4. He used to be the only one allowed to go outside but then a coyote poached a cat 2 houses away. We knew the coyotes were in the area but not on the street. So now he's indoors only because of the coyotevirus and he's not a happy camper.
Anne , I love your horse. I need to lose 40 pounds, and now with the gym and the barn closed, have to make my own training schedule. I work out with my gym trainer once a week, and 2 other days do our routine on my own. I'm trying to increase my cardio but am currently experiencing knee pain, so am...
PaulaO wrote:My favorite flower is carnation. That was my grandma’s favorite too.
Paula, I didn't see any fresh flowers at the produce market today. If I do, I'll look for carnations but I think it's too early for them. My pics are of what's in my garden.
I was down for 8 weeks in November with what was diagnosed as bronchitis. I don't remember if I had a fever, probably. What I do know is that I couldn't exhale, had to be on a nebulizer every 4-6 hours, heavy duty steroids. Today someone asked me "do you think you had COVID?" I wonder. It...
At the old Hayward Hills stables? I had my rideable horse in Briones until last October. When there was a small break in the fire/power outage nightmares, I took the opportunity to move him to Lodi where my retired horse is. I fully thought I would be retiring the guy too but the change in footing a...
San Francisco just ordered mandatory shelter in place. Neighboring counties expected to follow suit. goldhorse what are you hearing about vivariums in biotech facilities and university Can't speak about biotechs but I'm in the know about Cal since DH is a professor there. Animal facilities are rest...
On a less fun note, I might be sick. Luckily we are on lockdown. A little coughy last night, throat a little swollen. The weird thing is I have had vertigo when laying down the last few days. It may be a weird reaction to allergies as things have been blooming insanely here, but I will just assume ...
So first day done. Definitely it's a different feeling being under mandatory restrictions vs voluntary restrictions. I don't know how the people in quarantine are doing this. I have it easy. Very glad to see our neighborhood step up and buy groceries for the elderly residents so they don't have to r...
Trying to lighten the mood for me and others caught up in this 1) coloring books (thank god I didn't Marie Kondo them) 2) walk the dog until she begs not to go out anymore 3) search for new recipes 4) dream about your horses 5) hope your trainer and barn manager sends some pictures of your horses 6)...
Still use hand washing as your primary defense. DH and I are in lockdown. No symptoms but his university is completely shut down. No students. No research labs open. Nothing but what's needed to keep the power running, research animals taken care of, etc. A useful blog for understanding why we ALL n...
So..., I spend a lot of my time on FB and groups correcting mistakes about hand sanitizer recipes. Ask away on that and that subject only. I've heard that 2/3 cup 91% alcohol, 1/3 cup aloe vera gel is a good recipe. Your thoughts? Yep, or substitute glycerin or even water for the aloe vera gel. Tha...
I took this as an opportunity to restock my earthquake/power outage supplies. I've been very very lax since the kids grew up. Everything that I bought is stuff that will be cycled into general use and hopefully I'll replace it in the future. Yes, I bought TP. We were out of TP. Target was depleted o...
The Mozambique gig fell through so she's been nesting with her BF. Right now she's on a plane to Brussels to go to one of the Medicins Sans Fronteirs headquarters and then off to Sierra Leone until February. She's been to SL before working for the CDC during the tail end of the Ebola outbreak. At le...
My understanding which is worth absolutely nothing is that the plug assigned to the ground on your trailer is not matching the receiver on his truck. I have this problem on my 1997 4-star which has the older 6 prong plug. Not all of the 6 to 7 adapters will work. A competent trailer mechanic with th...
I hit a personal high for deadlifting of 155 lbs. Not bad for a short chubby 61 yo woman. I'm now addicted to weight lifting and the transfer of stability to the saddle is amazing. DH is probably taking a big shot job in Maryland so we'll be bicoastal for a few years. :( DD's are doing well and DD#1...
Well I found my missing right seatbone. It was there all along  Turns out, it was breeches related. I've been trying various summer weight breeches and settled on a Dover brand with one of those silicone seats. Yes, they are sticky. Too sticky. I thought that my seatbones were moving inside of...
I do a running braid on my Morgan but his mane is long and thin. I've also done this method but I braid to the end so the scallop piece showing at the top is also braided. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UFZ2Gwy4uM These things make it a breeze to pull the end through the knot. https://www.amazon.c...
I know the app of which you speak. On my iwatch, it continually alerts me until I press the "dismiss" button. On my iphone, the alerts show up once and then disappear and I'm left wondering where the fire was. I don't know why there's a difference. This is probably going to have to go to s...
After today's ride, I'm back to basics. If anyone sees my right seatbone, please let me know so I can reclaim it. UGH! I thought the boy was cranky because his feet hurt and he was due for new shoes, but no that's not the primary cause. It's because I'm sitting unevenly right now. Lots and lots of w...
What do y'all do off the horse to improve your stamina on the horse? I am hitting the gym regularly, work with a personal trainer twice a week, can do intervals on the bike and am now a hard core weightlifter. My stability and core strength is now off the charts compared to two years ago. But I stil...
Goldenhorse - your posts and lovely pictures stirred a memory for me from long ago - the beautiful palomino Morgan, Prince of Pride. I don't suppose your fellow is one of his descendants? https://www.morganhorse.com/upload/photos/904MaryWoolverton6.14.pdf Looking at the pedigrees, I don't see any r...
Goldhorse is his name really Piglet?! That is so cute and he does look adorable :) I really wanted a Morgan but they tended to be a bit small for me. His nickname is Piglet after the Winnie-the-Pooh character. He's usually known as Pig, Mr. PIggles, or Piggly-Wiggly or anything else undignified tha...
Thanks for the pictures, Goldhorse! He’s a handsome boy, and that tail!! I will enjoy watching that team on their journey. I should add that Goldhorse is a big part of “that team” :) Thank you Demi. There is a very large team of people behind this pair: owner (me), trainer, a few fit teenagers that...
Glad you posted, Goldhorse. Your journey is just as valid and important as anyone else’s! The only requirement here is that you must post pictures! (Just kidding, but I do love horse pics no matter what level the horse and rider are!) You wanted pictures, you got them. What horse person doesn't lik...
Yes, my sweet itch boy is doing better this year. He is on prednisilone for the rest of his life to help control some gut issues. As a result, he's moving better and I think his reaction to bug bites is less. I only see him 1-2 times a week so I don't know how effective the lemon eucalyptus spray is...
I never post on these threads. Maybe because I'm too intimidated being a lady of a certain age, overweight, fearful, and perpetually at training level. But here goes. I partially sponsor a Grade 2 paradressage rider (that's walk/trot) as she's dipping her toes into the world of competitive paradress...
My middle aged gelding had ProStride for an inflammed stifle joint. We did a slow rehab and he healed nicely and is back to competing with his para rider.
I got an Away suitcase, the next to smallest one. It fits an amazing amount of stuff especially if you use packing cubes. It's also very lightweight. My only complaint is the lack of an outside pocket but I always carry a large tote so I stuff loose stuff in that.
I'm in Northern California. Both horses get an annual rabies shot with their fall vaccines. I used to do it myself but now have the vet do it so there's a record. I have heard a story about a breeding stallion that bit a vet tech and the owner couldn't provide proof that a vet had vaccinated the hor...
