Thanks for the details Flight! That gives me some good stuff to think about. :) Bliss is recovered!!! He gave me 'the look' the other night... the slightly grumpy one that says "Mom, when are we going to WORK!?!!" So after putting my son to bed last night I scooted up to the barn. :) I lon...

I vote Bling!!! It's subtle and classy looking.

I am not a fan of loud bling, but my bridle is very similar to your first one. :) I have a tiger's eye brow band for my dark chestnut, and the bridle is padded with brown.

Re: Can we get a jump on April/May training goals thread?

Just one quick thought... the horse I used to ride previously (Prussia) developed a girth gall out of the blue one day. I tried everything - string girths, sheepskin covers, cotton girths, more padding, less padding. Nothing worked. Then I realized that the gall was forming at the buckle part of the...

Well we are off to a rocky start... At the end of March I got another nasty flu so Bliss had a week off. I am a big fan of raw honey... by the spoonful if necessary. It provides almost instant relief! Hi Flight - Doing the cavaletti exercises build lots of strength in the haunches and over the topline. When you take the cavaletti away, they obviously won't have as much loft as when they were going over the poles, but after working with them for a few weeks, they will have more strength so should ...

Here's a crazy thought - do you guys jump at all? Do you have cavaletti? If so, why not try doing cavaletti at their highest setting in canter? Do one at first and then work your way up to doing a grid. Or put them on the tangent points of a 20m circle. Also, I think it's totally normal that your st...

I have ridden in very very cold weather, but I always use common sense. If it's so cold that I'm feeling stiff and I wouldn't want to exercise, then I would only ride very lightly. And the colder the temperature, the less work I do. If I have to put numbers around it I'd say that I would still light...

Kirby is pretty special. He's a 7 year old field bred English Springer. He was bred for one thing - hunting upland birds.
