Re: Rehabbing horse - help with walk exercises
Keep them coming please! Odin was diagnosed with minor suspensory damage in both front legs yesterday, confirmed with soft tissue scans. I'm very bleak. We're on 6 weeks of rest before the next scan, followed by rehab.

Re: Okay Internet Jockeys - Mount up: Nip Tuck video for Discussion
My 2 cents... I think this horse has very different conformation than we have become used to seeing in the International arena. He's long as a bus behind the saddle so he's not going to look like he's tracking up like Valegro, for instance. It was a relaxed, clean, accurate test. Super nice pirouet...

CC for us is going okay. I hear you on the c/w... We can get lovely ones if I'm schooling them, and doing quite a few transitions in a row, but if I have to pop one in the middle of the test it's decidedly unlovely!

great work! thanks for sharing. Can you share more about walking the hands forward? I have a horse that likes to go deep as well. Last year, she first had me try just lifting my hands up and forward briefly, with some leg support. From the beginning, this pretty much made no change in his posture. ...

I was booked to ride in a clinic with our South African national coach this past Saturday, but had to fly home for a funeral unfortunately. I second the suggestion for asking from a few steps of trot LY. Seems to create a bit more push and balance into the canter. When I was struggling with this a few years back, someone on this board suggested the following exercise: Get a good trot on a 20m circle. Spiral in from outside leg and rein ...

My goal was to be confirmed in the second level work so that we can start showing it from the start of 2016. Some things are better than I had hoped, some things slid back a bit. His trot work (never his nicest gait) has come on in leaps and bounds, so much suppleness! Canter has fallen apart a bit....

I like the "punch" phrase too. My instructor says, "Don't let him feel like a rocking horse, BOUNCE him underneath you!" So many shows where I've ridden the lengthened canter, thought I was really going for it and flying. And then I watch the video afterwards, and it's like we're...

What worked for me to get the feeling of the bend required, is to ride a 10m circle. When you have nearly (but not quite) completed the circle, i.e. when the front feet hit the track, just carry on straight up the long side. The circle sets up my body as well, and takes care of the initial bend. aft...

He looks nicely put together (I'm not a conformation guru AT ALL). He's got typically upright Appaloosa pasterns, and he looks a little over at the knee, but other than that he looks well made

Thanks everyone! I'm a huge scaredy cat. I'm at a jumper yard though, so to overcome some riding-related fear I joined the jumping crew for weekly lessons. It really really helps. An enthusiastic canter lengthen in the dressage arena is a lot easier to deal with suddenly :) It also helps that Odin i...

We're in a built-up area, so we don't have access to good trails. But we go for walks on the quieter roads, and sometimes we box out to trails or big venues where we can go for walks.
