Re: Springing into May and June - Goals and progress
Sending out jingles to everyone whose horse is dealing with medical issues. There seems to be several of us here with vet bills. Khall - This spring has been horrible with allergy season (I look like a raccoon, itchy eyes, runny nose and feel dopey tired). Maybe a reason why/how Joplin scratched her...

There is barely a small wind puff observed on his hind lower ankle. Frankly, it is so small compared to other horses with ankle blemishes that you might not notice it. I am cautious when riding or lunging to use SMBs (old style 4 staps) on his hind legs - that have the bottom strap wrapped for ankle...

We had another load lesson this afternoon and he marched on and stood with me. This lesson was me saying load now- then wait - now back off SLOWLY. I decide when to load, stand for a time and then get off slowly. He was fine after 3 repeats so we were done. His confidence level has greatly improved ...

So our equine dentist yesterday confirmed my aged gelding has a broken back tooth (infection observed on X-ray) that needs removal at her surgical clinic. My guy had a pasture injury doing zoomies some years ago - rear fetlock as you described. Ditto - what texsure said for giving warm water to an older horse. This detail has always been successful with my older geldings - so maybe a dental sensitivity with age. The outside water source must always be fresh clean water without mud, algae, slime etc. as many horses will refuse to drink it. ...
