Nice report, DJR! I have been thinking about what you said about holding Jet together in canter and inadvertently letting him "charge forward" rather than respecting your HH by sitting more. I am having a similar (but lower level) situation with Rocky. I am working her in walk trot only ri...

It's not, by any means, that I am disregarding or don't appreciate the info posted on this thread, BUT I didn't do it. I went out to feed earlier, wormer in hand, and at the last minute, changed my mind. Emma coliced shortly before I bought her. I know this because the trainer she was with uses the ...

It's always possible that she has neck threadworms along with Culicoides (and possibly other) sensitivities, so double deworming may have some effect without completely curing it. Ok. I have two doses of Zimectrin Gold. She'll get it tomorrow and then two doses of Iverectin on Oct 12. Then a single dose of Quest on Oct. 26. Yes, that IS a lot of wormer.

Ok. Ok. Based on your Ph.D in biochemistry, Goldhorse, I will double dose her! But I just single dosed her with Zimectrin Gold, 1.55% ivermectin and 7.75% praziquantel. I did that on Sept. 11. So now what? Two more doses tomorrow, which would be 17 days apart? I put Bag Balm on her mane, tail and mi...

Will this ever go away? This winter maybe? Is this just a particularly buggy year? We've had very unusual amounts of rain for this area this time of year. I rode 5 days last week. Rocky has been so good lately. Today was cool and overcast and I rode early in the morning so she had lots of energy. I've gotten 4 rides this week on Rocky so far. Three rides in the arena and one double lounge. Tomorrow I should take her on a trail ride. I've been missing the adventures of Gwen and Callie and am glad you updated. Your plan sounds just right. You are both young and a winter of letting her down is just a blink in time. Now that Rocky is getting back into work I have started thinking about working with a trainer. When I'm trying to see subtle differences I often find free lunging helpful. Lunging should be like riding, not liberty work. I stand straight with shoulders back and down and hold the line like a rein. He has to move correctly as if under saddle. None of that would be possible with liberty work. I...

To me a pony trot requires a horse to be more off the leg than a working trot. A pony trot should be slow enough that the horse would find walk easier.
