Re: Dental Question

Musical,
no special equipment, except my regular vet didn't have a mouth speculum or the type of digital x-ray plates he would've liked to have. He managed to 'eek' out one o.k. film for a tooth extraction, but I then went to a dental vet for a more extensive workup.

Re: Dental Question

I second the second opinion, with oral x-rays. One step at a time is the way to go. Be sure to ask this next (vet school) vet about how many cases of EOTRH and/or gum conditions they've seen or tend to see. I had to travel to the next largest city to find a dental vet who (a) had the appropriate x-r...

OK, you asked for it :) Git yerself on down to this "T" state if you want to dry out. Drought, pastures dried up, hot and humid in the mornings, then hot, dry, dusty in the afternoons. This too, shall pass, but send some precip down this way, please!

Vet was out this a.m. and we discussed pica. In his experience, the majority of the cases he's seen are behavior-related, not nutrition. That said, he took blood to send in for CBC and analysis of the most commonly found deficiencies (vit A, selenium, and some others). Some of the more detailed mine...

I remember when this project began. Looks awesome! Have the neighbors 'bought in' to the native/xeriscaping style? Looks like a great demonstration garden for the unenlightened! Do you have any small, "specimen" trees or bushes planned for either front or back yard?

The youngest horse I ever considered buying was a 6 y.o. well under saddle. Since it was only a few hours drive, I was present at the PPE and he flexed sound on two different surfaces. I had told the seller and the PPE vet well in advance that even if the flexions looked good, I would continue with ...

Thanks, Chis, I've thought about a grazing muzzle, too. My coming 27 y.o. gelding had his annual dental exam last week with a new (to us) veterinarian, who specializes in equine dentistry.
