Re: show breech recommends?
Rompf is a great suggestion for what you are looking for. They tend to be high-rise although some models might be out of your price range. Also, I think these would fit your requirements. They are high rise and within your budget. I know you wanted knee-patch (god only knows why lol), but these woul...

So I've been able to really make progress on mediums with my haflinger gelding this year, who I thought might never be able to truly do it. Here is what worked well for us. 1. Not hill work, but hill lengthenings. Point him towards the barn or somewhere he wants to go and ask for the lengthening up ...

So, I had my first lesson with a new trainer today and I liked the lesson quite a bit. In general everything seemed very classical and jived with my previous training and knowledge. Re: Double bridle bits help!
I would say that that is a pretty thin curb bit. I think they are typically 16+ mm. Typically I think people pick a slimmer bradoon than their snaffle (so if he had a 16mm snaffle you could do a 14 or 12) and the curb is thicker. Now if your horse doesn't have room in it's mouth than that is differe...

I've been following this thread and have a question for those who haul a gooseneck with a 6.5' box (instead of the 8' box) -- any problems? I suspect that if your horse dies in the canter on the spot, your horse is also dying in the transition. I find that doing canter on the spot actually helps horses that have a tendency to drop out from under you because you can move them right back out again. I will do it several times on a circle ...

As an aside, how many riders start the CP with a walk P, transition to canter, a few steps, and walk. Helps with rider timing of their leg. This was the way that my former trainer tried to introduce the piros and I can tell you that was a disaster. If your horse is a minimalist, this might help lat...

Re: Intro to Pirouettes: What's your strategy?
It starts with one step, not even onto the spot. If the horse cannot be gathered, how are they to canter onto the spot, even for a quarter pirouette. So, the question is rather why the horse shuts down imho. Certainly a horse should be able to do walk pirouettes (understand the aids), and figure 8s...
