Re: Breakfast with Mama: The Final Chapter

I think we can only do the best we can do with the choices we have. Sometime euthanasia is the correct choice, sometimes rehoming is (I have done both over the years for different reasons). If we can rehome with the as much certainty as we can, then yes rehome (I did twice because of difficult horse...

Re: The first rollkur thread of the new DDBB!

Abby, I think ANY of the breed shows are bad/abusive in some cases. ASBs chase them around with fire crackers, fire extinguishers, they will dilate their pupils to scare them (yes this happened, my farrier watched one with dilated eyes run through center ring because he could not see), Arabians are ...

Re: Separation anxiety in dog

I still say look at the crate training PDF I linked. It will take time and investigate clicker training, please!! He needs to learn calm behavior. Drugs might help while getting over the hump, find a treat that he likes, chicken, cheese, p-nut butter, steak, hot dogs something he likes not just buy ...

Re: It's That Time...Show Your Fall Colors!

Flight that is because TWD is filmed in Ga in the summer, hot and very green. Heck we are still green around here, cutting hay in the last couple of weeks sometimes even into November. Gorgeous fall colors, ours will come eventually. We have some hickory trees on our farm that are the most glorious ...

Re: The Double. Gulp.

I just did this over the summer. 1. be prepared for sticker shock! The bits are quite pricey but I found the ones I wanted on sale, whew. 2. I was told to put them on, leave the curb loose and no curb chain, my guy hated the curb bouncing around in his mouth, so I put the chain on and lightly kept a...

Thank you for rescuing him and I hope it works out. I have dealt with separation anxiety before in an older dog, got worse as he got older, no fun.

Re: The first rollkur thread of the new DDBB!

Go to an Arab show they are doing this with Arabians now. I could not believe my eyes when I saw them with the broken gaits and barely moving. I used to love a good WP Arabian, they were so elegant and actually MOVED, now they look like the QHs and it is winning.

Re: Pasture board, your location and hay

Mid Georgia, grass still green with big pastures (2 10 acre, 1 2 acre and 7 horses). I usually do not supplement until November sometime. Heck we have been known to cut hay as late as November around here. It is getting cooler, down into the 40s overnight last night but highs in the 70s. Bermuda doe...

Re: What changed? USA and guns

I can relay my personal experience with being raised around guns and raising a son who is now 15 around them. I grew up with guns that were out in the open, hung on racks and displayed as well as knives, bows etc because my dad was an avid hunter for many years. I never saw them as being anything gl...

We moved to our farm December 2004, we lost our family dog May 2005, he was my DHs and I first dog together and we got him the first week we got married as a tiny tiny pup. I was very sad and wanted another family dog so went to local kill shelter to see a black and tan hound puppy that was there be...

Re: What ELSE do you do for fun?

Oh yes, wine is a good hobby, but don't know too much about it. I tend to pick the wine based on the label, if it has horses on it then I will give it a try. I have foster dogs and I enjoy working with them (well one right now the other is undergoing HW treatment), doing a clicker training class wit...

Yep, woman driving too slow http://www.ajc.com/news/news/breaking-n ... n-d/nnz4x/. I grew up with guns in the house, still have them both hand guns and long guns, but I do think more gun control should be in practice. Not sure how it will or if it ever will come about. NRA is a powerful lobbyist an...

Re: Turnout question

I do herd turn out unless a horse does not play well with others. I have large pastures with usually mix groups. I do watch carefully that the horses get along and will shift them around if needed. So I vote give it a try, but I would separate out one calm friendly gelding and let them get acquainte...
