No this is the BO's other horse who was retired from eventing because of navicular He is a second level dressage horse now and I work him and lesson on him and it is great fun. I get a break on my board for exercising him. Does that make me a professional? LOL. The BO doesn't want him sitting around...

Wow thanks for the advice, Chisamba. I was also thinking about contacting the rider in the article to see if she could find me a mare since she does so much rescue. I would absolutely love to have a rescue horse if it worked out. But I don't want weanling. I want a riding horse now.

My comment was on the quality of contact, not her hand position. In the picture I posted from a clinic, my hands were very whack but my horse was still clearly flexed right. Paddling = winging as far as I can tell. It is an outward travel of the hoof.

Dishing = winging in is an inward travel of the hoof.

On the lunge, my horse can have his nose out and within inches of the ground. When he does this, his body assumes quite a bounce. I have never achieved that under saddle.

Lunging CAN be an extension of riding in terms of training correctly and building muscle correctly. But the only way it can do that is with side reins in my opinion. In my opinion, the shorter the rein the easier it is to quash any backward hand. The more you force yourself to ride with the correct shorter rein, the more you learn to automatically give forward in small and big ways which horses really dig. Someone recently posted an ISO draft cross on one of the straight dressage horse sites and got a bunch of non-draft cross responses. The ISO did say "type" so there is room there but doesn't look good if someone posted draft cross non-negotiable. I may try anyway and report back.
