Re: Pasture board, your location and hay
Western MA, 5 acre pasture with 3 horses on it full time. I'm not supplementing with hay yet because the pasture's still in good shape and they're all fat, but when they start to lose weight I'll supplement with hay for awhile, and then when the water freezes I'll bring them in so they have access t...

Re: What ELSE do you do for fun?
Beautiful! How do you prepare the surface of a rock before you paint it? I just wash and dry if it's dirty, and then use acrylic paints. I spray them with an acrylic sealer and let them dry for a couple of weeks before I put them outside. I left some outside all summer and the paint didn't fade, bu...

No, we can not. I have never consented to that content leaving a place where i had control over it, and the ability to delete it if I chose. What good would it do to delete it when it's been up on the board where anyone could copy it? We don't own pictures that someone else took of us without our k...

Re: Cross training: Trail riding?
Plus, the trail is the only place that we get that Big Road Trot, which both mares much prefer to cantering. I love to trot and always wanted to get a trotting Standardbred so I could do it right! Oddly enough, our Halflinger has a great road trot, although both of her mule kids would rather canter...

Re: Uploading pictures
I'm down to 450K and it still won't import and it's getting hard to make the photos smaller without creating a file that is too large to hold all the pixels. I kept shrinking one I wanted to upload and finally just edited it down to 124K and it uploaded. So I don't really know what the max is, but ...

Thank you! I do have a hard time putting it down after I've started. I get very focused when I draw, and find it easier if I have a couple hours at a time to work on it. I do think it would be good for me to do again, it helps me get out of my head. Not much else crosses my mind once I get into a p...

Kris, the photo was posted on udbb. Long gone now. She put up two pics. One when the filly was 2 and then a more recent one (8 year?) with the filly standing in a barn aisle. It was medium bay with a little white on the face. Really pretty; my type, which is why I remember her so well. Ah, that exp...

Last one, it wouldn't let me put them all in one post Yes, definitely get out your supplies and make some more, because it would be such a shame to let that kind of talent go to waste. I do most of my painting a few minutes at a time when I'm waiting for the dogs to come back in, or waiting for som...

I was an art minor in college (talked about that in my "about me" post). I haven't done many projects in awhile. I got very discouraged when in the separation and divorce I lost every piece of art I had made and still had in my possession at the time. Something like that would be very har...

Re: Reinventing Yourself?
My reinventing came about as a result of the Triple Crown of Death in my life. I lost both my brothers and my horse within 3 months. I also lost a huge part of my social life since that was entwined with the barn and my so-called barn friends dropped me like a f'in hot potato, including my best fri...

I just can't add anything more in my hands. I have too many things to juggle as it is. The penlight (clicker) can be difficult to use, if he's looking away or we are in a bright room, it doesn't work well. You might be able skip the penlight/marker and just work close enough to him so that you coul...

Kande, those rocks are wonderful! And I have so much smashed pottery that I've saved to make mosaics "some day"! I haven't done it in a couple of years, but I fell in love with pottery about 5 years ago, the wheel did not come naturally to me - it's taken awhile, but it has slowly gotten ...

We have started heel, sit, down, stay and come. I use a pen light as a clicker and a vibration collar for "come". It is a struggle to juggle a hyper puppy, pen light, treats and collar remote while also getting the timing. Ay yi yi  We are making some progress, though. Now there's ...

Beans cooked with a ham bone, black olives, cheese, lettuce, tomato, on a flour tortilla. I've really been into egg custard with maple syrup lately, so made some in the cooker thing that shall not be mentioned for dessert. The texture is iffy, but it tastes just as good as baked.

I made quite a bit of pottery until I decided that I'd better leave that alone and ride more while I still could. My understanding, is that the purpose of soaking was go get the hoof immersed in Epsom salts to draw out the infection. Now that there are gel like gooey Epsom salt poultices, I find these work better. Another possible reason might be to increase the temp inside the hoof to increase the inflammatio...

I felt a bit disheartened that I'm still dealing with some anxiety about riding. I've worked hard on this since my offloading two years ago. But it is what it is. Maybe the best thing about being an older rider is you cease to dwell on one day. That, and I think we've seen and experienced how quick...
