Broken Leg, Broken Screws
Went to doc today fully expecting to be released to PT. He came in exam room a little wide-eyed; two of the three screws above the break on the tibia have themselves broken. I have two choices at the moment: Stay the hell off it for another month, or have surgery to repair them. I honestly almost fa...

How awful! I agree with everyone; the safety and well-being of your kids is your first and most important job. Period. This is a bad guy. It hasn't been just one, or even two infractions, but a list of bad and dangerous behavior. I'd have trouble being on the same block as the guy.

Nothing other than while visiting Orchard Beach OR a number of years ago a couple had a rescue pair they'd walk on the beach early in the morning when the tide was out. I say "walk" euphemistically. They'd turn the dogs loose and those dogs turned into liquid silver streaking across the op...

Must be the season. I did start doing a little more stretching of the muscles around the ankle and calf; squats if you can call them that, toe stretches and rotations. I'm hoping to get a few therapy sessions. From this side of the injury, I can say be patient, and don't let things get tight. It's a...

I've done both. When I mixed my own, I was using food-grade metal 55 gallon barrels. I just made sure to really empty them, and use a dry rag to wipe the grain dust out before mixing a new batch. Never had any problems in 30+ years of doing that.

NOTHING other than metal! Mice/rats/squirrels/rodents will chew through anything not metal. I used assorted metal cans and bins for years, now I use an old chest freezer. Love it because EVERYTHING is in one place i.e. extra dog and cat food, bird seed, assorted grains. Rodent proof.

I had a horse who developed heaves after a winter at a boarding facility with bad hay. Turned out an allergy to oaks exacerbated the situation, and moving him to an oak-free area really helped.

The discussion that I most likely to disagree with is the use of the left eye to assess threats. I'm currently handling a young stallion and when ever he is uncertain, he will assume a "leading" position -- standing at the handler's right facing the same direction as the handler is. I thi...

Nephew just told me on a flight back from Germany there was a VERY unhappy cat stowed somewhere that caterwauled the entire trip. We who own cats know the sound; mournful, guttural, drawn-out wail. He said you couldn't even enjoy the silence because you simply waited for the cat to start again.
