OK, Aussies, we need some graphic pictures of your huntsman here, with warnings for the squeamish. Spiders are cool.

What about this: "Denise is a rider that will go far in life" I was taught: Person or critter = "who"; Object or non-living thing = "that" I don't hear anyone say "She is a rider WHO will go far in life". Everyone seems to be using "THAT". Drives me ...

Re: Traction for my old dog?

For our old pup we, too, ended up strategically placing rubber-backed door mats and runners where she needed to walk most. When it came to stairs, DH simply carried her (50#) upstairs every evening, and I carried her downstairs every morning during her last months with us.

Re: Changes to expect in the aging horse

If my gelding were sound for riding we'd still be out there, for sure. I tried some work in-hand right after I had to retire him, but even that was uncomfortable for him. Three vet consults, x-rays, ESWT, joint supplements, Adequan, etc.---you get the picture. None of the vets felt he would be able ...

Changes to expect in the aging horse

My gelding retired pasture sound just over 4 years ago. He is now 24. Only recently has his topline started to dip a bit, plus his face and body now sport many more gray hairs (he's chestnut). He has no problem eating his grain or hay or pasture grass so far (knock wood). He finishes shedding out co...

Re: Dogs on the bed, yes it no?

Our yellow lab mix never had any interest in getting on top of any furniture or in the bed. Guess we were lucky. And so lucky to have had her, RIP.

If we had a dog now, he/she wouldn't stand a chance against 4 cats in the bed. Each night, DH and I, at some point, turn into a 'cat sammich' :D

My 24 y.o. retiree has difficulty keeping hind legs up for farrier, so farrier does a bit of 'stretchies' work with each hind leg before trimming. Many (many) years ago when I volunteered at a therapeutic riding facility, one of our little wheelchair-bound riders was so very excited to be going to the upcoming Garth Brooks concert. Everyone at the barn that day heard that he would be going to see 'Garth'. So we asked, "Caleb, are you goin...

Re: Can we talk about ankles?

Ankles injuries always seem to creep back into your life, just when you think they've either become tolerable or have gone away altogether... I would suggest consulting with a sports medicine orthopedic doc, and not a podiatrist, IMHO. Hope you can get some good, professional input and that you will...

Re: Stray dogs and their owners

Did you see any kids in those car seats? Wondering what the dude was doing at the FWP? I have mixed feelings about dogs roaming where they shouldn't be. The dogs don't understand boundaries, fence lines, but their human "keepers" should. Thankfully, we've been able to replace lots of old p...

Re: Should we have a What's for Dinner or Cooking new forum?

I prefer the idea of a "Kitchen/Garden/Home' forum. When these topics are mixed within the OL, I tend to miss them once they float beyond the first page. The (possibly) lower traffic seen on these topics actually keeps them more interactive, IMHO, if they have their own location. If someone has...

Re: Home improvement folks - paint color quest

It might depend upon whether your house is brick, or wood siding, and how much trim is around windows, soffits, attic, etc. Out here in the country, I've seen the blue/gray houses (mostly clapboard siding) use a cream (not white) colored trim around windows and doors. Often, since they are bungalow-...

A "funny" spooky. Back in the last century, when kids in our 'hood had free run of the streets for trick-or-treating, sans parents. A house at the end of our block had one of those mail slots built into the brick wall of the front porch, so mailman could lift the hinged lid and drop in the...

Dad had Alzheimer's and passed away in February 2014. He was living in a memory-care center and still showed some funny glimpses of humor from time to time. The kitchen area of the center had a short, swing-door that was kept latched so the folks could not get into the kitchen. Dad, being the consum...
