Re: New Horse Introduction and Turn Out Issues
Can he be in a smaller paddock with a buddy for part of the day? Sometimes having extra space to pace and get worked up isn't helpful. Sometimes my mare can get very upset with a chance of living arrangement (and she is always out 24/7, but has been moved to a new paddock or lost a neighbour). Depen...

Can you take a pic? My gelding would get rubbed patches on the outsides of each hock when his stall had a wood floor with shavings for bedding (no rubber mat).

Flight, don't be hard on yourself! Your horse is going beautifully under you, it will be really fun to watch him develop. Riding is more than drawing lines from riders 'body points' and comparing angles. There has to be balance, fluidity, relaxation, trust, rhythm, suppleness etc etc...His happy and...

Re: Breed help - small drafty type
I don't think any breed can be a definite yes or no, it really boils down to individual temperment and experience. You want a horse who can be ridden inside or out, alone or with company, handled easily, and they type you can put in the crossties and then drive to town to get a sandwich (not that yo...

Re: white line disease
I researched this quite a bit when I thought my mare had it (was grasping at straws when she had a deep high abscess that neither the vet nor farrier could find). I read that incorrect hoof angle can put strain on the white line, causing it to stretch and leaving it susceptible to the infection. Sin...

I wouldn't turn away or deter a buyer who is willing to go to such lengths to try your horse. She may very well be giving herself extra time in case she needs it, and could make the decision (either way) much sooner. Are you only available to go to the barn in the evening? Does she know this, and do...

Edited my thread title, I wasn't considering actual ivy (English or Boston, I believe they are both on the noxious weeds list), but a Virginia Creeper or Climbing Hydrangea. I don't believe that termites are an issue here, but will look into it to be sure.

Growing Vines on a house - yay or nay?
I love the look of climbing vines on houses (so do my kids), we have some brick pillars along the front of the house, in good condition (house is 35-40 years old). I'm thinking of getting some Engleman Ivy to climb them, but don't want to regret it a few years from now. What do you think?

Can you set up a comfortable indoor/outdoor run, so she doesn't have to be crated? At 10 she may be somewhat arthritic and the confinement is making her sore, contributing to her crankiness. I would also try keeping a 6ft leash on her at all times (dragging) so if you do have to 'grab' her you don't...

She sounds extremely green for her age, every horse is different but i've found 'older and green' to be much more difficult than 'young and green'. Try not to worry too much, most horses adjust to having them. When my gelding got the diagnosis it helped me immensely to deal with his spooks, so maybe this will be a step forward and not a step back.

She looks good, but you would have to see her in a video, and then in person. 'Ties' can mean a wide range of different things: "Doesn't break cross ties but does shuffle back and forth while being groomed' or 'falls asleep and can be safely groomed by young children'.

I agree Alex, having the 3 resorts with combed beach areas does not infer danger at the waters edge. I would also take the 'no swimming' signs to mean more about water quality and lack of lifeguarding, not that it would be dangerous to put a toe in or near the water.
