Curious how a Republican feels about last nights debate?
Curious how a Republican feels about last nights debate?
I didn't watch it but from this am's reports, apparently they behaved like petulant children. Sounds like they were not able to control their angry/frustrated feelings and behave diplomatically towards one another and have a debate. But, resorted to calling one another 'liars' etc.
I'm not wanting to point fingers at a particular candidate with this discussion, just curious about how a non-political republican feels about those running for President and bahaving badly.
But, from what I've read about all the other republican debates, I believe they have behaved like petulant children to some degree in each one, just not as obvious as last nights. Again, I have not watched them but have read reports the day after and this is what I have garnered.

Apparently, they're too embarrassed to answer.

Frankly, I think it is a case of not wanting to bother speaking to the other politicos on this board since no one's mind ever seems changed. Republicans on this board (like UDBB) are outnumbered by a LOT. And sometimes, it is just not worth arguing.

And frankly, stella, posts like yours are one of the main reasons I don't bother with the political forum anymore...except to come in as moderator once in awhile.
This country is a country divided. Neither side wants to cross the aisle. And that is a very big problem.

PS. I have not, nor do I plan to, watch any of the debates by either party as I will not be voting either Democrat or Republican. I will not vote for any party who does not represent what I believe in and neither major party does.

Who are some (or one) third party candidates that you would feel good about voting for?

At the moment, I don't know as I haven't started research yet. I do realize that whomever I vote for would most likely not be elected but I still like to put some thought into it.
I also tend to pay much more attention to state and local issues even more than candidates as non-person issues tend to really impact me personally over a candidate.

What an insolent, self serving, self satisfied, snotty ass post. I could also call it typical.
And trust me, if I were still a democrat, and my choices were Hillary and Bernie, I would not be crowing about the fabulous candidates in my party. So diverse! A lying corporatist war hawk whose co-president (NAFTA, welfare reform, Glass Steagall, incarceration laws etc harmed millions of Americans) and a sincere and honest old white socialist senator from Vermont. wow! Way to represent the American People (tm) ! What great choices!
Democrats are allllllll about diversity. Except when they aren't. Because as we all know, any conservative woman, PoC, gay, whatever, is either a token, a sell out, a traitor, or too stupid to vote in his best interests. I hear it alllll the time.
I was such a proud democrat all of my adult life. Never again. I cant take the lying to protect their own, the phony diversity, the phony feminism, the phony caring about 'the folks', the party above all mentality. Do I fit in to the republican party? Not in many ways. Do I like all the candidates in the republican side? Hardly. But Hilary?! OMG. You have nothing to talk about, Stella. Nothing.

Can't we all please just realize that, in an attempt to get hundreds of thousands of people all moving in one direction, there are going to be screamers, and cajolers, and leaders and stragglers, and logical and emotional choices, and plenty of frustration?
I don't believe there has been an election for national politics in the entire history of this country that was unanimous.

Or probably any election where more than 50 people voted.

Re: Curious how a Republican feels about last nights debate?
I am forced to watch the debates because my husband is interested. I have found myself increasingly disenchanted by both parties. Ib feel more unrepresented this year than any. I considered myself a moderate Republican, but I have come to consider there is no such thing.
I am not socialist. I intensely distrust socialism, be it "Democratic" or not. And while people do lie, especially politicians, I find Hilary to be grossly deceitful.
So that makes the two Democratic front runners awful for me. I kind of liked Martin O Malley.
Now, the Republicans... I am religious but dislike the ultra conservative religious of one, Trump has moments of very clever ideas followed by such bombastic arrogance that I am amazed y his appeal.
So who does that leave me, Rubio...Bush or Carson. None of those inspire me to any degree of enthusiasm.
It's almost as though one is once again further to choose between a Clinton and a Bush. Lol. I say lol but it's not funny.

And my only comment at this point is as long as the disenchanted continue to vote for the parties they are disenchanted with... things, IMO, will not get better.
As I said, will my candidate (whoever it is) get elected? Most likely not. Would they, whoever it is, actually garner enough votes to really affect the overall outcome? Probably not. But, at least I sleep at night thinking I had the right to vote and selection of candidates to choose from and voted who I thought would be the best president knowing that no president will not make everyone happy all the time

Apparently the mods here are OK with name calling and pile ons as long as it is the right against the left.

There is so much truth to this comment it is actually depressing. I actually believe that the powers that be in both parties know this and even cultivate it to their advantage. I also believe it to be true in other countries, not just the US. It is just more evident in the US because there are only 2 parties.

She voiced her opinion about your post. Her post is exactly what I was thinking. This is not a pile on.

I personally believe that in the US we could cause an effective third party to come into being but as long as the sheep stick with the flock (because it is easy and requires no thought) it will not happen
As has been noted, while the President does have "power" he also doesn't act alone. Often he must influence Congress which the Pres may or may not be successful doing. Executive orders could also potentially come under SCOTUS review if there is a possibility of Constitutional violations.
So, for me, all the candidate/party rhetoric is all that it is... rhetoric. They can say what they want to get the vote. When the rubber meets the road and the elected candidate takes office, I would expect much of the rhetoric will fall by the wayside and not occur.

Yeah, maybe, until she decided it was "typical" and then sneered all Democrats, which is rather by definition a pile-on of "the right against the left."

Ah, well, that must make it OK then....
We don't actually have principles, and run things according to posted rules. No. We play "tit for tat" with all the gusto imaginable.

ENOUGH! Stop with the bickering.
We can always kill the political forum if the nastiness from both sides doesn't end.
