Thank you. Josette, I am so sorry about your TB.

I do know where there are nine others just like these who were rescued at the same time. There are mares and foals and mares in foal and some geldings and more fillies. These horses need homes and are currently being halter trained and worked with.

I think the one with the wide blaze is sooo pretty. Is she a TB too? She looks to have much more bone.

Yes, she's a TB. That's Nighmare Doll. She is 3 turning 4 and Whozeewhatzit is 1 turning 2. Nightmare Doll is a granddaughter of Transworld and Whozee (barn name pending) is a great granddaughter. Doll has THE most beautiful head I've seen on a TB. The next chapter will be about her.

Awesome writing in my opinion! Your description makes her sound amazing and wonderful. I hope 'her person' reads this and claims her. Can't wait for part 6, I have a good feeling about it.

I think it's beautiful that no matter how much we work with horses, we can still walk in a stall and a certain horse will make us catch our breath and we get that sense of wonder and amazement.

Registering these girls with the Jockey Club is an expensive project, so I'm not adding on a name change currently. Besides, Julie said she would love an eventer named Nightmare Doll, because it's badass :)

It's hard to tell if she's gaining or is pregnant. She's dropped some pudgy fat and topline, but they may have been feeding them up for higher prices. But what really slays me is here is a horse 8 weeks out of the kill pen, bought at meat market prices. She has papers. I get that she is wild as a March hare, but seriously, to slaughter?

A lot of good horses are going to slaughter. And horses that no longer have a home for whatever reasons, or are older.

She does look like she may be "in the family way".

Also looks like she's got quite an engine on her.

Can you elaborate on flunking the DNA test with the Jockey Club? Is she not 100% TB?

Basically, the DNA test showed that the mare submitted as dam on the breeding certificate is not the mother. But the JC is being really nice, and they're running through possibilities of all the mares listed with that stud on the farm for a closer match. They also said they would refund the money if they can't get her registered. So, that helps. I can understand if you don't know who the sire is, but I guess with all those red heads with funny names, it's hard to identify the dams too.

What an interesting situation all around. I'm glad the JC is being good about it.

Poor baby herself, having a baby. I know nothing about breeding, and realize there is a laundry list of things this girl is working through, but was wondering...is she so young that she may have developmental complications from being pregnant while she is still growing and/or will it be harder for her to deliver the foal? You guys do amazing work, with some seriously challenging situations! Thanks for all you do...and for taking care of yourself while you do it!

Fergus, I suspect there may be all sorts of complications possible. The main thing I got from the vet was to feed the mare as befits her age and the foal will get what he needs. Apparently this happens in the wild a lot but that doesn't make me feel much better.

Red will probably be stunted a bit but I don't think there will be any developmental orthopedic diseases as I'm not seeing any signs of them. I am secretly hoping she will stay under 14.2 because she would be an amazing pony hunter. Whatever happens, it is better than the alternative because she was headed for the kill plant in Mexico and we would have lost them both.

Oh my goodness, she looks so huge! Great pictures, but I'm amazed at the top one. Awesome photography.

Any idea what the daddy might be? Looking at how round she is I'm hoping the foal isn't half-draft!

Well, we're pretty sure daddy is a TB, since I don't think there was anything else at the farm. All I know right now is that she can start and stop labor at will. And I am tired, bordering on incoherent :)

So, just as soon as she has you past the point of exhaustion and truly passed out, that's when she's going to have the foal. ;)

foals are always cute, and happy to see that both are healthy and in good hands, also with the double recessive, daddy was probably a chestnut
