Buying a Grand Prix schoolmaster

Postby Bats79 » Tue Mar 22, 2016 5:50 am

Has anyone ever looked for a schoolmaster in the USA or Europe and what type of price are they asking / getting?

I've just noticed that on an Australian facebook page two Grand Prix horses have come up for sale recently - one a school master and the other an 11 year old just starting (but scoring 63% at National level). In Australia these horses are currently priced at $65 k for the 16.1hh 12yo and $85k for the 17.1hh 11 yo. Both are in full work and competing.

It just seems interesting that I never hear of people looking to Australia for trained horses.

I didn't think we had all that many for sale down here Bats? And then the transport cost.
I'd love a GP schoolmaster! I just don't earn enough $$ to buy one.

I've seen more in the past year than ever before - not International level horses obviously but still pretty good.

Bats - I keep a pretty close eye on the market here... just because I'm obsessed, not because I'm about to buy. :) I think that price for GP horses that are that young is pretty darn good. I am going to assume they are considered "schoolmasters" at that age because they aren't fancy enough to be super competitive at the national level. Something that age and nationally competitive here would definitely be more expensive.
