Today is Bob's anniversary

Two years ago today I helped my beloved Bob cross the bridge. Not a day goes by that I don't miss him. Last year on this day I was happy the bad year was gone. Today (and this whole holiday season) is sadder for me. I have my new kitteh to help. I realized how much I enjoyed taking care of him and as I call it "messing around" with him. Now I have the kitteh to take care of. Not the same as a horse but it helps rechannel my energy and emotions.

I will always love Bob the best, and his impact on my life will never leave me. Two years ago I wrote on the calendar "the light went out today."

I find it's always hardest in the days leading up to the anniversary. But after the anniversary is done, I feel a little lighter and more able. A light may have gone out, but there are other lamps still waiting to be lit. Don't try to replace him- you can't. But you can find joy in other, usually unexpected, places.

I think of Lad every year, this time of year, since he dropped dead in front of me the day after Christmas. This year I made it a point to ride Rudy in the snow and cold that day to remind myself of how lucky I am to have my 2 "youngsters."
