ID the dog breed?
ID the dog breed?
I just saw these dogs at the train station.
I guess they are Chinese shar-peis? I found one picture that looks like this but most do not.

I'd say Shar-pei as well but also agree they don't quite look like most Shar-peis I've seen...

They look just like most Shar peis i have seen, once they are mature they lose the very wrinkly look.

Thanks, guys. They were very striking. Very reserved. I was intrigued by the massive collars they had on.

when i was the vet tech at a goodlettsville animal hospital, there were three shar pei clients, they were reserved and great bout everything except nail trims, they would try to take your hand off if you trimmed their nails.
Re: ID the dog breed?
Yep, Shar Pei, years ago a workmate bred them (and neapolitan mastifs and french bulldogs and rex cats).
She would bring mom and pup to work at times, a very small office. Nothing as funny as a herd of wrinkly faced pups running at you.

Definitely purebred share peis. For relatively small dogs, they are surprisingly super strong. Viz the collars, I had so many people ask me if my share pei crossbred girl was a pitbull I ended up getting Cathay a studded collar w/two lines of studs. There's something about shar peis that isn't quite finished yet in terms of breed style maybe because they weren't subjected to showing pressures generation after generation until recently when they started to be shown in the U.S. Cathay had an ultra tight curly tail that she carried right on her back and left hip. She was the cutest girl EVER, ash black w/a grey muzzle and w/quite limited wrinkling which is much healthier for their skin and eyes.
Re: ID the dog breed?
Shar Pei's have been overly wrinkled up in the past few decades. There are two kinds of head/muzzles ... bone mouth and meat mouth. Truth. The original dogs (bone mouths) weren't wrinkled at all. This photo shows the progression from bone mouth on the right to modern mess on the left.

Yes, shar peis.
Re: ID the dog breed?
Wow - I have learned a lot about shar-peis!
They seemed kind of like this middle dog:
