My tail has been docked!
FINALLY. I had my coccygectomy yesterday (have had scheduling hell and this was the 3rd date). So my tailbone and it's attendant evil spike are gone.
The pain has been very manageable so far. I can even sit for short (really short) periods but that greatly helps for getting out of bed. I had practiced various different 'dismounts' but none of those were particularly easy . That will be great as I am single and falling is always a worry.
So...let the healing begin. I want to ride (really ride, like effectively) again .

Re: My tail has been docked!
Still doing well. I got to sleep last night . I think I had had about 5 hrs the previous 2 days. Between fatigue and anesthesia hangover, all I have to do is lay down and I doze off. I need to put a plan together to accomplish something (don't know what yet) during my 4 weeks off. After my post-op visit, I hope to get out to the barn and dive into some ground work with Kyra....if it ever stops raining.
The house is awfully quiet. I boarded my cats for a few days. Oscar likes to jump in the middle of me and I didn't want that, thanks. It also gives me a few days break of messing with the litter box. A friend is picking them up for me on Friday so that will liven things up.
Thanks for all the well wishes.

Great that you can sleep!
Kyra had a good workout yesterday. Let me know if you need anything or barn chores done when I'm out there.

Keep calm and canter on.

What a relief for you to have gotten this over and done with. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Cuddling with the kitties will help!

Re: My tail has been docked!
I feel I am doing pretty well. Still taking a bit of narcotic when I go to bed but otherwise managing on my little cocktail of 500mg acetaminophen w/400 mg ibuprofen. I slept well last night. I turned my light out about 11:30 pm (after holding my book in my hand for about 15 minutes--never did open it ) and slept until almost 9am.
Cats are home but one has diarrhea . I am not sure what to do with that. He isn't vomiting and is eating some food so hopefully he'll settle after all his stress. I am having my Mom pick up some baby food for him so I can get more water in him.
And yes Sue, I am bored. I think next week I will bum a ride out to the barn in the back of my friends' Prius ( that is how I got home from the hospital ). I can do a little grooming without violating my instructions.

Re: My tail has been docked!
Well...time flies. It has been 5 weeks. The incision healed up very well...no infection...yeah.
I headed back to work this last weekend. I'm a little ouchy. I try to limit my sitting down (my work station is sit or stand) but my feet were killing me. They don't get along with the concrete floors. Anyway, that increased soreness seems to be gradually fading and I ordered a anti-fatigue mat to stand on to help my poor dawgs.
I am doing much better sleeping. Yippee! I prefer to sleep on my back and that has been a no go for years. I slept but spent the night tossing and turning. My sleep feels much more rested now and I can actually lay on my back. Sitting comfort should follow with time.
This isn't going to be a quick fix but I am confident I am headed in the right direction. I soooo want to get on my horse but know better .
