It's morel season! And yes, yesterday I was lucky enough to go morel hunting on horseback.

Re: Another Obsession
Oh goodness, I must admit I'm quite jealous. Growing up in Michigan a big part of spring with my family was going morel hunting but when I moved to Ontario I stopped because I don't really know any spots to go so I haven't had fresh morels in years. Of course we're covered in snow right now so even if I did know of where to go it's a bit early for these parts. Hope you find many more this season!

We were pretty stunned when we found morels on the property we bought in Tennessee. We are sometimes lucky enough to find them elsewhere, too. Our season for them is close to over, although we've had some later frosts which are confusing some things!

We find them here from the middle to the end of May, and sometimes into the beginning of June. They're too small to see before the second week in May, and usually gone by after the end of May. Not that we find many from horseback as the undergrowth is starting to get thick by then so it's easier to find them on foot, but if they're growing on a lawn or on bare ground we can sometimes spot them.

Here in the northern section of the LP of Michigan, we still have snow on the ground.

Oh yum! We had a great morel season last year, and my co-worker brought me some. So good.
Keep calm and canter on.
