Fly leg bands, experience with anyone? pics added

Postby Saddlebum » Wed Apr 13, 2016 11:03 pm

http://www.jefferspet.com/products/fly- ... ts-all-set

I know the reviews are mixed on Jeffers but am wondering if anyone on this board has experience with them. Do they work and for how long? Are your snaps or velcro and how well did they stay on?

My donkey gets eaten alive if I don't spray. I tried leg coverings by Cashel but he tore them off.

I am working 12 hr days and fly season is coming all too soon.

Search Google for shoofly leggins. They look goofy but my horse wore them multiple summers 24 hours a day and I never had a provlem with them

ugh, pricey but the reviews were good. I'll get a set for my donkey and if they work, will get for my horse. Thank You.

SB, I ordered mine from http://www.drycreekwesternwear.com/shop ... h=shoo+fly Excellent customer service and quick shipping. I think the donk needs pink ones!

I did not have good luck with them on my mare, and I found that they easily got dirty and muddy (I didn't think washing them off would be a good idea). I do believe that different repellent formulas work well or not depending on the variety of flies you are dealing with and the horse's own body chemistry, so you won't really know unless you give them a try.

My donk in Pink???? He would hee haw his self around till the neighbors came home - hahaha.

I'm thinking about these as the price is reasonable along with some good reviews

Can you leave those on 24/7?

P.S. The rule is all threads that mention donks or mini-donks must include at least one picture.... Just sayin'

A barn I used to work at tried them many years ago (probably 7 or 8 years) on a few horses that were pastured 24/7 in the summer. If I remember right, they stink to high heaven and gave me headaches (but then again, I'm sensitive that way and can't be around/wear citronella either because I get headaches from that). Other than that, they seemed to work okay, were worn 24/7 for several months. Blacksmith wasn't fond of having to trim with them on, but for a less opinionated owner--as in one willing to remove them--that shouldn't be an issue.
