In Case You Need a Smile This Morning....

This morning I was cleaning out Fergus' 2 door Taj Ma Stall that I leave open as a run in for the boys. Dallas came in to "help" and ended up rubbing his neck/mane like crazy on the doorway post. I tried to itch and check for ticks but he wouldn't quit for long and I didn't want crushed fingers so figured I'd check later. Went on to scoop poop in the barnyard. Fergus was eating his post-oatmeal hay pile in the barnyard. I look up and Ferg had marched up to Dallas with his herd leader swagger and Dallas stopped immediately...looked at Ferg as if he was saying "do you need this spot? Where did you need me to go?" and sort of stayed frozen. Fergus reached over and started grooming Dallas along his neck, where he'd been itching, shocking Dallas and me. I can't remember Fergus ever lowering himself to groom another horse since babyhood....until Dallas. And have never seen him that incredibly sweet about it. Full disclosure, I teared up. It really warmed my heart. And then later I told Fergus that his secret was out...that he has gotten to be a big squish in his older age.
