What a nice shot. Tell us about Lucky! How did he get his name? :-)

He still has all his teeth, which is a blessing. Picky about hay nowadays, but chows his way through his oats, alfalfa pellets and rice bran in enormous quantities, and is offended if I miss the carrots in his feed bowl...

He's been a family member for about 23 years. He's just a solid gold little horse. I bought him when we lived in New York for my husband to learn how to ride on, and he looked after him on the trail and over fences for many years. He helped a little girl get over her fear of jumping, who subsequently has ridden round Badminton.

He's been retired for years--he has gnarly ringbone and fused pasterns so he doesn't move so well. But I have a new farrier who has done amazing things with him, and he's still capable of sneaking out through an open gate and taking off down the driveway at a canter... and regretting it later.

As I said on Fergus' post not so long ago, everyone should be so fortunate as to have a little chestnut quarter horse in their life...

Lovely. The seniors are so special.

My goal is to have a chestnut QH as part of my life.

Awwww he looks super!!! He reminds me of my own little chestnut QH, who is 28 this year and still going strong W/T/C 3-4 times a week for my mother. :)

He looks in very good health. Nice to see, since my chestnut retiree will be 25 this August, and it helps to see other seniors and what they look like.

God Bless the old ones. He looks very happy and with excellent body condition. Lucky sure has lived up to his name.
