How to find a horse

My very good friend has just learned that her horse is out for six months. She is of course devastated. As an older rider, she is concerned about not riding for so long. She summers in upstate NY, and goes to FL with the horse in the winter. She is a reasonably good amateur, tall, and takes excellent care of her horses. Any suggestions on where to find a horse until November? She also has a youngster in FL in training, that is not ready for her. Upstate, she rides trails and does ring work with a student of Bettina Drummond. I think she'd be thrilled with almost anything to ride that would do trails and be reasonable in the ring. TIA!

Put a bit if training on a horse that is already trained for a rescue or rehab organization? Both benefit, she has a horse too ride, the horse is made more adoptable?

What a kind idea Chisamba!! I would love to do something like that.
When my friend was horseless, but not ready to start looking, I suggested she help out a nervous girlfriend by putting some miles on her draft cross. Not at all the type of horse my friend would want for herself. But, it took the pressure off of trying to find a ride on a dressage horse until she was ready to start looking for her next mount, and gave her something to ride and play around with in the mean time.

That is an interesting idea - I will propose that to her.

I wonder if she could find someone who is busy getting ready to leave for college, who won't be taking their horse with them but would be happy to have the horse to stay in work with your friend.

Check local FB groups for short-term leases.

Also check with dressage chapters in the area. They might be willing to do an email blast or put it on their facebook page.

Where in upstate NY? That term means different things to different people!
She might try getting in touch with Eastern New York Dressage and Combined Training Association http://www.enydcta.com/
