It's spring here in NZ and our Arapawa ewes have just started lambing.
So far we've got 3 sets of twins from Pinky, Honey and Brulee and a couple of singles from Custard and an unnamed daughter of Horatio in a lovely range of colour combinations.
Lots of spots are coming through in Bambam's lambs and BountyBar is producing some stunning fine woolled beauties, the brown moufflon ram lamb is BountyBar and Custard's stunning lamb.

Yesterday's arrival
Arapawa sheep are a rare feral breed of New Zealand sheep found on Arapawa Island in our Marlborough sounds after breeding there away from mankind for a couple of 100 years and are thought to be descended from sheep off a shipwrecked Spanish galleon... their nearest relatives by DNA analysis are Gulf Coast sheep in USA which came from Spanish sheep brought over by the conquistadors. They are hardy, parasite resistant, footrot resistant and flystrike resistant and they are lovely sheep to look at and handle. Mine behave more like goats and can be trained to come for treats. The meat is fine grained and sweet with little fat on it.
And we're lambing!

I spin it. It's very fine and soft like Merino - typically 17-23 microns but has lots more bounce than Merino so its all lovely and squishy!
I'm going to be setting up an etsy shop in a while to offer carded Arapawa fleece to people who can't readily get it.

Awesome update. They are stunning creatures. How fascinating it is that you breed Spanish-descended sheep and horses!

Those babies are just ADORABLE!! BamBam is quite the man!
Re: And we're lambing!
Now up to 19 lambs! 7 are ewes and the rest are rams. More to come...
They have great personalities and are fun to train and have around.
Cardamon produced a lovely pair of twins for me yesterday, Mum and kids doing well.

All the better to wiggle them at you!
This is my Crepe Suzette - the lamb who I bottle fed and then fostered on her Goatmum last year because her own mother rejected her after she slid under the fence at birth. Mother had another twin to keep her amused and didn't want little Crepey. Goatmum lost her kid [which I had to help deliver] so she was full of milk and it was nice to give her a job to do.
here we are wanting our bottle
and here she is all grown up! She has a lovely sweet personality and follows me around like a puppy.
Re: And we're lambing!
We now have 26 lambs and still counting...
Yesterdays twin ewes from Jellybean are adorable.
They are vary rare being mainly white, most Arapawa sheep are black or brown coloured, with or without spots.
