It depends how large the hernia is. It can be <1000 or it could be much, much more. Is it an umbilical hernia?

I had a filly with an umbilical hernia and surgery was not expensive although I can't remember exactly how much it was as it was quite awhile ago. I would also assume it depends on where you live as vet costs vary widely across the country.
