Snow Fun

Postby TeresaA » Mon Feb 20, 2017 1:02 pm

In the last week we've had a huge dump of snow. My mare, Carmen, is not a fan of snow and often won't leave the small paddock we have cleared. My older gelding goes out into the larger paddock but she rarely follows.

Yesterday was nice and warm so I went out into the larger paddock and started to make a snow horse. I didn't get far before both horses came to see what I was doing.

Carmen had fun chewing on and pawing my little creation. I noticed that for the rest of the day she kept going out to play with it. I

The things we do for love.

Hah hah, nosey parkers have to investigate! Carmen looks *so* curious about the snow creation, and great that it motivated her out to the big paddock. Love her dapples!

Things are going much better. We hit a wall last year and I ended up bringing a trainer out to help me with her- it was either that or sell her because I was going to get hurt. He helped me see where her behaviour was coming from and how to deal with it. Once she realized that no one was going to hurt her things went much better. Basically it was a case of a sensitive mare and a bad start = dangerous behaviour. I have big plans for this year for us t get out and do things so I'm excited about that.

We had a lot of snow this winter. I kept intending to build a snowman in Kyra's paddock and stick carrots in it. Alas...it never got done. The snow was never quite right...at least when I was out there.

It looks like Carmen's curiosity got the best of her. Thanks for sharing.
